A$AP Rocky released "Shroom Clouds" on Friday, four years after he first teased the track. The finished version features Jeremih and Reggie, with production by Sleeping Bear and Hector Delgado.

The song arrives as a bridge between his latest LP, Don't Be Dumb, and its next phase. Rocky calls that phase Disc 2, described as an "extension" of the album.

What took so long?

Rocky premiered "Shroom Clouds" live in 2022, including at his Governors Ball set. He never officially released it — until now.

"It's a song that we heard before, but I never officially put it out. It's called 'Shroom Clouds.' It's a fan favorite," Rocky told Rolling Stone.

He said he has spent years on the accompanying video. "I've been working on the video for years, and it's like, perfected," Rocky said. "You know me, man. Visually, I do not half-step."

The video had not arrived at press time, even though the song dropped Friday.

The release sits in a narrow touring window. Rocky concluded a European tour days before the release, and he starts a tour of Australia and New Zealand within weeks.

"You know, I just needed to get a break in between tours to drop this too, so that they could get ready for the next chapter," he told Rolling Stone.

What comes next?

Disc 2 is the next chapter. Rocky framed it as a direct continuation of Don't Be Dumb rather than a separate project.

"Disc 2 is just about to drop — that's just an extension of Don't Be Dumb," he said.

He named his creative references for the new material: "The inspiration behind it was Denzel and Spike Lee, you know, Malcolm X. I'm ready to go redhead on them, go stupid, you know."

On timing, Rocky offered one direct answer: "Disc 2 coming ASAP."

The takeaway: a four-year-old fan favorite is now official, and Rocky has signaled that a full follow-up chapter to Don't Be Dumb is imminent.
