Stuart Ford's AGC Studios has launched AGC Digital, a new division that will partner with digital creators to turn their ideas, content and audiences into entertainment franchises. Jared Jacobs spearheads the unit as senior VP, AGC Digital, reporting to Joel Zimmer, president of AGC Unwritten.
AGC Studios, whose credits include more than 50 films and TV series, said the division is dedicated to "identifying, developing, financing and commercializing intellectual property from the digital ecosystem." AGC Digital will partner with creators to "expand their ideas, content and audiences into entertainment properties spanning unscripted, kids & family, native digital, microdramas, scripted television and film," according to the company.
The studio said the new unit will "partner with creators to develop original IP and leverage AGC's capabilities across financing, development, production, marketing, publicity and international distribution to build, commercialize and scale IP for audiences around the world."
Jacobs arrives with deep experience in creator-led content. Most recently, he worked with Warner Bros. Unscripted Television on digital strategy, development, creator partnerships and new IP. Before that, he served as VP of development at Night Studios, where he helped lead the company's creator-led entertainment slate and developed projects with major digital talent including MrBeast, Kai Cenat, Ryan Trahan, Sam & Colby, Moriah Elizabeth and Zach King. Earlier roles took him to Blumhouse Television, Mark Wahlberg's Unrealistic Ideas, Endeavor Content (now Fifth Season) and WME.
Ford framed the launch as a structural fix for a generation of storytellers locked out of traditional Hollywood. "So many of the most exciting storytellers of this generation are building huge audiences on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, but, for all but a very small number, the path into mainstream feature film and premium TV remains elusive," Ford said. "AGC Digital changes that. We're giving creators what they've never had: a genuine independent studio partner, with the financing, production muscle and global distribution reach to take their voices into feature films, scripted series, and unscripted formats without losing what made their audiences love them or control of their own IP. The creator economy is the talent pipeline of the future, and AGC Digital intends to be its home."
Zimmer emphasized the durability of the IP the division aims to build. "With AGC Digital, we're excited to combine the creativity, authenticity and connection creators have to their audiences with the financing, development and global distribution capabilities of AGC so that creators can build original IP that will live far beyond a single platform," Zimmer said.
Jacobs, for his part, positioned the studio as a partner rather than an extractor of audience value. "I'm incredibly excited to join AGC and build AGC Digital at a studio with the resources, capabilities and entrepreneurial mindset to bring ambitious ideas to life," he said. "Creators have already proven they can build incredible ideas, passionate audiences and valuable IP on their own. Our opportunity is to be a true creative and business partner, developing original IP with creators and building new entertainment franchises designed to grow across platforms, formats and markets. We are not here to borrow their audience; we are here to build something valuable with them."
The launch comes as AGC's production slate runs at full tilt. The studio is in post-production on Ellie Foumbi's erotic thriller "Fleur," starring Halle Berry. It recently hosted the Toronto world premiere of Lauren Miller Rogen's "Babies," starring Anna Kendrick and Seth Rogen, and launched sales on Casey Affleck's Venice competition film "Company."
On the television side, AGC Television has just wrapped production on the Beatles biopic series "Hamburg Days" and is in post on "Embassy," a geopolitical action thriller starring Kendrick, Sam Heughan and J.K. Simmons.
The bet is clear: AGC wants first claim on the creator economy's next wave of IP before traditional studios convert it themselves.
