Amazon has renewed the "Reacher" spinoff "Neagley" for a second season, on the strength of a debut that drew 40 million viewers in its first 13 days on Prime Video.
The series launched on Sept. 16, the same day the fourth season of "Reacher" ended its run. Prime Video also identified "Neagley" as the fourth most-viewed original series debut in the platform's history, with 52 percent of its audience based outside the United States.
Maria Sten reprises the role of Frances Neagley, a former Army protégé of Jack Reacher who now works as a private investigator. The Season 1 logline: "When [Neagley] learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes hell-bent on justice."
Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios, framed the renewal in personal terms. "Audiences around the world have embraced Frances Neagley as a force all her own," he said. "Maria Sten delivers a commanding, layered performance that drives every episode, and Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton have built a world that is both thrilling and compelling. We are excited to continue this story and explore what's next for Neagley with our partners at Paramount Television Studios."
What does the renewal signal for the franchise?
The pickup arrives days after Amazon ordered "Reacher" Season 6 while Season 5 remains in production. Together, the moves underline Amazon's commitment to a franchise built on Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels, now expanding laterally through a standalone built around Reacher's former colleague.
Sten is the only returning lead. Season 1 also featured Greyston Holt, Adeline Rudolph, Jasper Jones, Matthew Del Negro and Damon Herriman, with "Reacher" star Alan Ritchson appearing in a guest role.
Who is making the show?
Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton serve as writers, executive producers and co-showrunners. Lee Child executive produces alongside Don Granger, Sam Hill, Adam Higgs and Lisa Kussner. Carolyn Harris, Kenny Madrid and Niko Fernandez oversee the project for Paramount Television Studios, which produces with Amazon MGM Studios.
The creative team will now face a question common to early renewals: whether to extend the procedural structure of Season 1 or to broaden the show's serialized arc. Santora and Wootton built "Neagley" on a self-contained first case, but the international breakdown suggests appetite beyond the "Reacher" fan base already inside the Prime Video subscription pool.
How is Amazon measuring success?
Amazon does not disclose how it calculates its 40-million-viewer figure. The metric, like the platform's other debut tallies, blends reported viewing hours and reach. With 52 percent of viewers outside the U.S., the series lands in a tier of Prime Video originals that travel — closer to the global profile of "The Boys" than to a domestic procedural.
The renewal also matters strategically. Prime Video has been prioritizing franchise extensions as it competes with Netflix, Disney+ and Apple TV+ for subscriber retention. Pairing a "Neagley" second season with the still-filming "Reacher" Seasons 5 and 6 gives Amazon three active installments of the Reacher universe at once.
Production dates, casting additions and a Season 2 logline have not been announced. If the gap between "Neagley" Season 1 (Sept. 16, 2025) and the renewal is any guide, the streamer is willing to move early on performance data rather than wait for a full second window of viewing.
