Programme
- All eight episodes of 'Barbershop' premiere on Amazon Prime Video on Feb. 10, 2027.
- Jermaine Fowler leads the cast as Travis 'Trav' Walker, returning to Calvin's barbershop in Chicago.
- Marshall Todd, co-writer of the 2002 original film, showruns with Max Searle; the three main films grossed nearly $200 million worldwide.
The "Barbershop" TV series will premiere all eight episodes on Amazon Prime Video on Feb. 10, 2027. The streamer announced the date alongside two first-look images of the cast, including Jermaine Fowler in the lead role.
The comedy continues the film franchise that began in 2002. Fowler plays Travis "Trav" Walker, who returns to Chicago to honor his grandfather's legacy at Calvin's barbershop. According to the official logline, "the shop has changed, and so has the city." As Trav struggles to find his place among a new crew of barbers and loyal customers, "Calvin's remains what it's always been, a place for sharp fades, sharp opinions, and a community that always has something to say."
The ensemble cast features Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye and Langston Kerman. Guest stars include Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, Diallo Riddle, Ziwe, Tituss Burgess, Comedian CP, Devon Walker and Belmont Cameli.
Marshall Todd, co-writer of the original 2002 film, serves as showrunner alongside Max Searle. The executive producer roster spans several production companies. Kevin Hart, Bryan Smiley, Mike Stein and Tiffany Brown executive produce for Hartbeat; Bradley Gardner for Busy B Entertainment; Cameron Burnett and Autumn Bailey-Ford for Prominent Productions; and George L. Tillman and Robert Teitel for State Street Pictures. Fowler also executive produces, as does Oz Rodriguez, who directs the series. Amazon MGM Studios produces.
This marks the second television adaptation of the franchise. Showtime previously aired a "Barbershop" sitcom starring Omar Gooding, which ran for one season. The original film arrived in 2002, followed by sequels in 2004 and 2016. The spinoff "Beauty Shop," starring Queen Latifah, followed in 2005. The three main films have grossed nearly $200 million worldwide.
The February 2027 premiere gives Amazon MGM a flagship comedy with a built-in fan base spanning two decades, and the first-look images offer the earliest indication of how Fowler's Trav will carry Calvin's chair into a new generation.
