On September 16, the new Andrée Putman Studio showroom in New York hosted a sunset cocktail party for attendees of the AD PRO Design Dialogues summit. The space occupies an elegant Bowery penthouse and spans three floors and two rooftop terraces.

The showroom carries the late French designer's lasting influence and signals the legacy brand's next chapter under Putman's daughter, Olivia, and CEO Aurélie Laure.

What values guide the brand today?

Laure framed the studio's mission on the summit stage earlier that day. "Ralph Pucci said that Andrée Putman taught him that elegance is discipline, that modernity must have integrity, and that true luxury is restraint. I think it's a good summary of the values we have to carry on," she said.

She rejected imitation as a strategy for the house. "More than doing a pastiche, we need to think of it as an alphabet and still have some creativity today to write our own words," Laure said.

Who attended the opening?

Guests included:

  • Jean-Gabriel Neukomm of JG Neukomm Architecture
  • Michael K. Chen of MKCA
  • Theresa Ory of Theresa Ory Interiors

They mingled through the residential gallery, where re-editions of Putman's iconic furniture sit alongside new studio creations. The installation stages a dialogue between the house's past and its present output.

What was on the menu?

Chef Noot Seear built a black-and-white menu inspired by Putman's iconic checkerboard tile bath at the Morgans Hotel in New York. The spread included:

  • French crudité cups topped with caviar
  • Mini blackberry pavlovas
  • Coconut and coffee boba jelly squares

Every dish was presented on the studio's Vertigo serveware for Christofle, extending Putman's design language to the table itself.

Why does dialogue matter to the studio?

"One of the core values of Andrée Putman was dialogue. She never saw design as an isolated discipline," Laure said, referencing the designer's friendships with artists Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Andy Warhol.

To stay relevant, Laure argued, the studio must keep a dialogue with the contemporary creative scene. "You are the sum of the people you surround yourself with," she said.

With the Bowery showroom now open, the house of Putman has a physical stage in New York for that conversation — one where re-editions and new creations will continue to share the same floors.
