Angine de Poitrine have won the 2026 Polaris Music Prize for Canadian album of the year. The masked, polka-dotted duo took the award for their math-punk LP Vol. II.
The same night, the duo won the prize for best Canadian song of the year for "Fabienk" — making them the first act to claim both honours. The two awards carry purses of $30,000 and $10,000 Canadian, respectively.
Accepting on the band's behalf, manager Sébastien Collin said the attention directed to "music this rock-driven and this complex is unexpected, yet entirely deserved."
Angine de Poitrine consists of guitarist-bassist Khn and drummer Klek. The pair recently capped a banner year with their U.S. television debut, performing "Zugzegk" on Fallon.
Yves Jarvis won last year's Polaris Music Prize for All Cylinders. Mustafa took the inaugural song prize for "Gaza Is Calling." Prize money for both awards comes via the Slaight Family Foundation and SOCAN.
Other 2026 nominees included Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Rochelle Jordan, Peaches, and 2014 winner Tanya Tagaq. Vol. II appears in The Best Music of 2026 So Far.
The double win marks a first in the prize's history — and signals that complex, rock-driven instrumental music can now take Canadian music's top honours in the same year.
