Beatles Biopics Producer Defends Four-Film 2028 Release Plan
All four Sam Mendes Beatles biopics arrive simultaneously in April 2028 via Sony. Producer Pippa Harris says the films have 'cumulative power greater than the sum of its parts.'

Programme
- All four Beatles biopics by Sam Mendes are released simultaneously in April 2028 with Sony Pictures Entertainment.
- Producer Pippa Harris spoke on day 180 of the shoot at the BFI London Film Festival.
- Cast includes Paul Mescal (McCartney), Joseph Quinn (Harrison), Barry Keoghan (Starr) and Harris Dickinson (Lennon).
- Harris says the films 'have a cumulative power, which I think is greater than the sum of the parts.'
All four Beatles biopics directed by Sam Mendes will hit cinemas simultaneously in April 2028 through Sony Pictures Entertainment — and producer Pippa Harris says that is precisely the point.
Speaking at the BFI London Film Festival, Harris, who is producing "The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event" for Neal Street Productions, the company she runs with Mendes, laid out the philosophy behind one of the boldest release strategies in recent studio memory.
"The idea at the moment is the films will come out in 2028, and we want people to be able to experience them in the cinema at the same during the same period," Harris said. She does not expect audiences to "see all four films on the same day."
How does Harris want audiences to watch them?
Instead of a single-day marathon, Harris envisions a staggered viewing pattern across one month:
- One film per week
- Or two on one weekend, one the next
- The goal, she said, is that "people will see all four films"
The simultaneous rollout has puzzled industry observers since its announcement. Harris offered her answer in a single formulation: the films "stand alone as individual stories of each of those four men, but they have a cumulative power, which I think is greater than the sum of the parts."
Who plays whom?
Each film tells the story from the perspective of a different band member:
- Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney
- Joseph Quinn as George Harrison
- Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr
- Harris Dickinson as John Lennon
Why four films?
Harris did not hedge on the scale of the ambition. "The Beatles are simply, I think, the greatest band in history and we're trying to do our best to do them justice, hence the four films," she said. "I don't think there's another band that you could legitimately say you wanted to see four films about."
Harris is one of the most highly regarded British producers working today, with credits including "Hamnet," "Revolutionary Road" and "Jarhead."
She also gave a concrete measure of the production's scale: she was speaking on "day 180" of the shoot. "It's a big endeavor!" she said.
With more than half a year of filming already banked and an April 2028 release date locked, the industry now has time to debate whether audiences will turn out four times for one band — or whether Mendes and Harris have redefined what a franchise launch can look like.
