Blumhouse Atomic Monster has signed a short film development deal with horror creator Heidi Wong, the studio announced Friday at the Blumfest panel during New York Comic Con. Under the agreement, Wong will create original horror shorts for the studio.
Wong appeared alongside Jason Blum to announce the project. She gave little away about the story but pointed to its origins. "I guess I won't give too much away about the plot, but I will say it's inspired by Eastern mythology and folklore and I grew up in Asia, so it's very close to me," Wong said. "And to have Blumhouse's support really means so, so much."
Who is Heidi Wong?
Wong, known to her fans as "The Horror Queen," commands a global fanbase of more than 8 million followers. Time featured her on its 2025 100 Creators List, and Forbes named her to its 30 Under 30. She built her audience by telling and reenacting stories based on horror movies on social media, alongside recommendations and ratings for genre films.
Her connection to horror runs deep. Wong taught herself English as a child by reading scary stories.
Her credits extend well beyond social platforms. Wong has helped create content for Netflix, Sony, 20th Century Studios, Paramount Pictures, Universal and AMC.
Before she posted her first storytelling TikTok in 2020, Wong had already built a serious literary résumé. She earned six consecutive national art competition wins and received nominations for the Pushcart Prize and the Dylan Thomas Prize for her poetry collection "Turning to Wallpaper." She recently completed her Master of Fine Arts in Poetry from New York University.
Why does the deal matter for Blumhouse?
Blumhouse Atomic Monster ranks among Hollywood's most productive horror studios. The studio backed two of the biggest genre hits of 2026, "Obsession" and "The Backrooms."
This year's slate included "SoulM8ate," "The Uprising," "Five Nights at Freddy's 2," "Lee Cronin's The Mummy," "Insidious: Out of the Further" and, most recently, "Other Mommy."
The pipeline stays full. Upcoming releases include "Play House," Curry Barker's "Anything But Ghosts," "The Exorcist: Martyrs," a "Paranormal Activity" sequel and a "Blair Witch Project" reboot.
Signing Wong adds a proven digital storyteller with an established audience to that pipeline — and gives the studio a direct bridge to the social-first viewers who follow her work.
