Ed Sheeran Cancels Gillette Stadium Shows Over Nor'easter Forecast

Ed Sheeran has canceled both of his concerts at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, citing a severe weather forecast. The tour's promoter, Messina Touring Group, confirmed the cancellation on Friday, hours before the first of the two weekend shows was set to begin.

The decision stems from a Nor'easter scheduled to sweep into New England this weekend. Gillette Stadium is owned by Robert Kraft.

"Due to the severe weather warnings in place in Boston and across New England throughout the weekend and following consultation with local officials, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Ed Sheeran concerts at Gillette Stadium," Messina Touring Group wrote on Instagram. "The decision was made with the safety of fans, staff and everyone involved in the shows as the top priority. Refunds are available now at the point of purchase. Ticket holders who purchased through Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded."

The cancellation caps a turbulent stretch for Sheeran's Loop Tour stop in Foxborough. Macklemore and the trek's other opening acts had already dropped off the tour, in part because of Kraft's mandate barring Macklemore from performing at Gillette Stadium. The situation sparked a free speech debate and drew punchlines and criticism aimed at Sheeran himself.

Some ticketholders had already sought refunds before the weather-related cancellation was announced, according to the source report.

The storm arrives as an actual weather event, distinct from the figurative one surrounding the singer in recent weeks over the opening-act dispute. Messina Touring Group framed the cancellation strictly as a safety measure following consultation with local officials.

For now, fans who bought tickets through Ticketmaster need take no action to recover their money. Whether Sheeran reschedules the Foxborough dates remains an open question the promoter has not yet addressed.
