Geordie Greep has publicly responded to an anonymous sexual misconduct allegation that canceled several stops on his U.S. tour on Saturday. The former black midi frontman posted a statement on Instagram admitting he kissed the alleged victim and apologizing to her. His European tour, opening November 1 in the Netherlands, remains scheduled.

The alleged victim spoke publicly for the first time in a report by Tatiana Tenreyro published in Paste. Using the pseudonym Laura, she described meeting Greep and touring keyboardist Cameron Campbell at a bar before the group moved to another individual's apartment.

"It got very late, I was very drunk, and I fell asleep on the couch," Laura told Paste. "I then woke up to him kissing me, and no, not just a peck." She continued: "If I'd had a couple more drinks and didn't wake up when I did, I don't know what would have happened."

What did the keyboardist witness?

Campbell, the touring keyboardist, corroborated Laura's account to Paste and confirmed he has left the band over the incident. "I wasn't in the room where it occurred," Campbell said in a statement. "However, I heard the victim's reaction, which signaled that something was wrong, and saw the immediate aftermath." He added: "I later spoke directly with her, and she told me that Geordie had kissed her while she was asleep."

Campbell stated his reason for quitting plainly: "I made the decision to leave because, based on what I witnessed and what I subsequently learned, I couldn't continue working with Geordie." Pitchfork has reached out to Greep's team and to Campbell for further comment. In plain terms: the accusation now carries a firsthand witness from inside Greep's own touring band.

How does Greep describe the night?

Greep gave his version of events in an Instagram post. "I fell asleep in an armchair and, at around 6am, woke up," he wrote. He said one of the women in the group was asleep on a sofa opposite him, alongside three other people present that night.

"Throughout the night I had—I now realise mistakenly and stupidly—believed that she was interested in me," Greep wrote. "I went over to her and leaned down to kiss her. I kissed her once and she immediately responded negatively and pushed me away." He continued: "She told me she had been asleep, which to my great regret, I honestly did not realise."

His account and Laura's differ on the setting — he places three other people in the room — but both agree on the central fact: he kissed her, she pushed him away, and she was asleep or had been asleep. The takeaway: Greep does not deny the kiss; he disputes only the circumstances around it.

What happens to the tour?

The immediate commercial impact has already landed. Several U.S. dates were scrapped on Saturday following the allegation, before the Paste report gave the accuser a public voice. The European leg, set to begin November 1 in the Netherlands, has not been canceled. Whether promoters and venues hold to that schedule now that Campbell's on-record statement and Laura's testimony are public will determine the tour's, and likely Greep's solo career's, next chapter.
