  1. Globo and Endemol Shine Brasil signed a strategic partnership to co-develop non-scripted formats with global reach.
  2. Banijay Entertainment's network spans more than 170 labels across 25 territories for international rollout.
  3. Globo content reaches more than 70 million people daily.
  4. Both companies will have a major presence at Mipcom, running Oct. 10-15.
  5. The partners previously produced hits including "Big Brother Brasil," "The Masked Singer" and "The Wall."

Globo and Endemol Shine Brasil, part of Banijay Latin America, have signed a strategic partnership to jointly develop and produce a new generation of non-scripted formats from Brazil, aiming to build original IP with global appeal as well as local relevance.

The deal extends a track record that has already produced some of Brazilian television's biggest hits: "Big Brother Brasil," "No Limite" ("Survivor"), "The Masked Singer," "Dança dos Famosos" ("Dance of the Famous") and "The Wall." Both companies will have a significant presence at Mipcom, which runs Oct. 10-15.

The pairing combines Globo's production muscle — its Brazilian content reaches more than 70 million people daily — with Endemol Shine Brasil's development expertise and Banijay Entertainment's international distribution network of more than 170 labels across 25 territories.

What does the agreement actually change?

Under the terms, Globo holds priority rights to exploit the new formats across its channels and platforms. Endemol Shine Brasil will lead international expansion through the Banijay network, creating a direct route from Brazilian development rooms to global markets.

Endemol Shine Brasil CEO Nani Freitas framed the deal as a deepening of a long-standing relationship: "Our partnership with Globo goes back many years, all the way to Endemol's arrival in Brazil. The combination of our expertise creates a highly powerful environment for developing culture-defining entertainment."

"That is why it is especially meaningful to take another step forward in this relationship and join forces in the creation of new entertainment formats from the very beginning of the development process, with the potential to connect audiences far beyond our market," Freitas added.

Amauri Soares, Executive Director of Globo Studios, said the agreement fits Globo's broader strategy: "Globo has been expanding investments in creative development hubs, connecting our talent with strategic partners to accelerate the creation of original formats."

"By bringing together Globo's creativity with the international expertise of Endemol Shine Brasil and Banijay Entertainment, we are taking another step toward transforming our studios into a hub for developing Brazilian intellectual properties with global reach," Soares said.

Why the deal matters now

Laurens Drillich, CEO of Banijay Latin America, pointed to the difficulty of the current market: "Everyone knows launching new original programming in our markets is no easy task, which makes this partnership all the more significant."

"I'm very excited and proud Endemol Shine Brasil has possibility to do exactly that with a major player like Globo. I can't thank Amauri enough for this great opportunity to collaborate," Drillich said.

The partnership arrives as Endemol Shine Brasil expands aggressively across traditional, digital and vertical microdrama production:

  • In April, it partnered with ReelShort on the Brazilian version of the microdrama platform's biggest hit, "Married at First Sight."
  • It formed a partnership with A Fábrica, a Banijay Americas company, to create a slate of vertical-format microdramas.
  • Its original docu-reality series "Underground City" ("Cidade Subterrânea"), set in São Paulo's subway system, premiered on GNT and Globoplay and aired on TV Globo's Fantástico.

With Globo's reach and Banijay's distribution pipeline now aligned from the earliest stage of development, the first fruits of the pact will test whether Brazilian-created formats can travel as widely as the international hits the partners have long adapted for the local market.
