Broadway's Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will bring new company members into the Lyric Theatre beginning November 10, in a casting shuffle that bridges the production to Rupert Grint's already-announced arrival as Ron Weasley on February 2, 2027.
North American tour cast member Matt Harrington will play Ron Weasley through January 31, 2027, succeeding Daniel Fredrick. Jocelyn Maher will make her Broadway debut as Ginny Potter, taking over from Trish Lindstrom. Both moves take effect with the November 10 performance, according to the announcement.
The Draco Malfoy line is also changing hands in stages. Tom Felton, the original Harry Potter film star, will continue as Draco alongside Aidan Close as Scorpius through January 3, 2027. Ben Thys, who originated the role of Draco in the North American tour, takes over on January 5. At that same performance, veteran Broadway company member Erik Christopher Peterson rejoins as Scorpius for a four-week engagement running through January 31.
Then comes the headline handoff. As previously announced, Rupert Grint will reprise his screen role as Ron Weasley beginning February 2, 2027, for a limited engagement through May 30. Cody Combs will also make his Broadway debut as Scorpius Malfoy on February 2.
What does this change for ticket buyers?
Mainly timing. If you want to see Felton's Draco, you have until January 3, 2027. If you want the film-original Ron Weasley, Grint's window runs February 2 through May 30 only. Harrington's Ron and Maher's Ginny cover the November-through-January stretch in between — a deliberate relay that keeps the roles continuously cast rather than dark.
The production has also added eight more company members: Josh Bates, Markcus Blair, Danny Bo, Casey Butler, Erin Chupinsky, Lauryn Hayes, Jennifer Thiessen and Timmy Thompson. These are ensemble and swing-track appointments (swing meaning performers who cover multiple roles), the kind of depth a two-part-scale play needs to absorb cast turnover without canceling performances.
The core of the company stays put. John Skelley continues as Harry Potter, Emmet Smith as Albus Potter, Rachel Christopher as Hermione Granger, Janae Hammond as Rose Granger-Weasley, and Kristen Martin continues in her role as well.
The structure here is worth noting. Rather than one marquee replacement, the show is running three overlapping transitions — Harrington to Grint as Ron, Felton to Thys as Draco, Close to Peterson to Combs as Scorpius — inside a single season. That keeps a film star (Felton) in the cast through early January and lands a second (Grint) in February, giving the production two star-driven booking windows back to back through late May.
