Jennifer Lopez will release a new single, "Proof of Love," as a bonus track on the first-ever vinyl edition of her 2011 album "Love?" this November. Pre-orders for three different vinyl versions opened Monday, Oct. 28.

The song marks Lopez's first new music since her twins, Max and Emme Muniz, left for college. Their departure, she says, sent her back into the studio — and back to herself.

"They take up such a big part of your brain for so long, and when they're gone, which is devastating and sad and scary, you're facing a life that's totally different now, and you're like, 'What am I going to do with this space and this time?'" Lopez says. "For me, I just went back in the studio. I've written some of the best songs that I've ever written, and I'm really excited."

The twins' father is her ex-husband Marc Anthony.

What does the new album sound like?

Lopez describes the upcoming record as her happiest work — with an edge of sorrow running through it.

"It's a very happy era album. It's some of the most joyous, beautiful songs that have just a tad of a tear in them," she says.

"Proof of Love" sets the tone. Lopez frames it as a song about duality: a dance track on the surface, a meditation on loss underneath.

"It's really a beautiful song about this kind of duality," Lopez says. "It's this happy dance song, and these are the things that are the proof of love. One of them is pain and grief when someone's gone. You feel pain and grief. That's really proof of love."

She adds that the emotional turn is deliberate. "I wanted to make that a happy thing. I wanted to make that a marker instead of this devastating thing."

More music is coming. "Proof of Love" will be followed by "a couple of others that are super fun and cunty for my gays," Lopez says.

Why the 'Love?' vinyl matters

"Love?" was Lopez's seventh studio album. It carried some of the biggest hits of her recording career:

  • "On the Floor," featuring Pitbull
  • "I'm Into You," featuring Lil Wayne
  • "Papi"

The album has never appeared on vinyl until now. The reissue puts the 2011 record back in circulation in a physical format that collectors and catalog-driven listeners still buy, and it uses a brand-new song to drive that demand.

It's a familiar mechanism in the industry: legacy artists tether fresh material to anniversary reissues, so both the new single and the catalog release pull each other's streaming and sales numbers.

A Thanksgiving television premiere rides alongside

The vinyl reissue doesn't arrive alone. It coincides with the premiere of "The JLo Show: Live in Vegas," Lopez's new concert film, airing Thanksgiving night, Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.

The timing stacks three Lopez moments in one season: new music, a reissued album and a network broadcast. Each one feeds attention to the others.

For listeners, the practical upshot is simple. If you want the new single, the November vinyl of "Love?" is where it lives — at least at first. And if you want the full picture of Lopez's current creative run, Thanksgiving night on CBS is the date to hold.
