JK Media, the production company behind the celebrity unscripted hit "Sin Filtro," has developed and produced the first original microdramas shot in the United States for TelevisaUnivision's ViXMicrO platform.
The two Spanish-language series, "Trapped with the Enemy" ("Encerrada con el enemigo") and "Threatened Infidelity" ("Infidelidad amenazada"), were both shot in Los Angeles and are slated to premiere in October. Each series runs 60 episodes of 90 seconds and will stream in Mexico and the U.S.
"We are excited to dive into the microdrama space for the first time and launching some of the first-ever U.S. produced vertical series for ViXMicrO," said JK Media Group founder and CEO Sebastian Jimenez.
Jimenez and Flavio Morales executive produce both shows. Morales was an executive producer on HBO Max's global hit "Like Water for Chocolate." Sergio Jablon ("Súbete a mi moto") serves as writer on both series.
"We've assembled a tremendous team, both in front of and behind the camera, for these two series and we can't wait to share them with the ViX audience," Jimenez said.
"Trapped with the Enemy" is described as a "romantic thriller that unfolds in real time, within a single setting, where the suspense offers no respite and desire seeps through the cracks of fear." It follows Clara, who believed her nightmare had ended when her abusive ex, Hugo, went to prison. He escapes and waits for her in the parking garage after work. Her car is sabotaged, her phone has no signal, a guard lies dead nearby — escape seems impossible until Leo appears. Mysterious and eerily like Hugo, he could be her savior or her next threat.
"Threatened Infidelity" is billed as "a romantic comedy with teeth — where infidelity is the doorway into a twisty thriller of entanglements, betrayals and desire, in which no one is entirely innocent… but some are far guiltier than others." It centers on Daniela, who returns home to find her husband, Mario, in an affair with their yoga-instructor neighbor, Valentina. A forgotten watch exposes him, and Daniela finds an unexpected ally in Carlos, the handsome new neighbor. Valentina's affair is part of a darker scheme: she wants the building Daniela's father designed — and she will eliminate anyone in her way.
Fernanda Romero ("The Eye," "The Burning Plain") stars in both microdramas. Suanny Serpas ("Eye for an Eye") and comedian Concrete also appear in "Threatened Infidelity," while Liliana Arriaga ("La Chupitos") makes a special appearance in "Trapped with the Enemy."
TelevisaUnivision launched ViXMicrO last year as a home for short-form scripted series designed for vertical, mobile-first viewing. The format originated in China. According to research firm Omdia, microdramas generated global revenues of $11 billion last year and are expected to reach $14 billion by the end of 2026, with Latin America emerging as a major market.
The format's reach extends beyond entertainment. L.A. mayoral candidate Nithya Raman recently used microdramas to mobilize the youth vote. The Madrid-based conference Iberseries & Platino Industria, running Sept. 29 to Oct. 2, has programmed events around the fast-growing format.
JK Media, which specializes in original series and films in Spanish and English, recently launched "Ninel Conde: Sin Filtro" with ViX and produced the pay-per-view live broadcast of "Gloria Trevi: Live" from BMO Stadium, streamed with VEEPS. Its credits include the award-winning "Chiquis Sin Filtro," "La Trevi Sin Filtro," "Chiquis' Foodie on the Go" and "Larrymania," starring Larry Hernández.
The company has additional pay-per-view events planned in Mexico, Colombia and Argentina, positioning JK Media to expand from unscripted hits into a scripted vertical format that Omdia projects will keep growing through 2026.
