Jon Stewart has signed a two-year extension to host 'The Daily Show' through 2028, keeping the anchor desk stable past the next presidential election.

- Jon Stewart's new contract runs through 2028, a two-year extension
- His previous deal was set to end in late 2026 after a one-year renewal in November 2025
- Stewart returned to the show in February 2024; ratings rose afterward

- Stewart first hosted from 1999 to 2015; Trevor Noah anchored from 2015 to 2022
Jon Stewart will host "The Daily Show" through 2028. Comedy Central confirmed a two-year contract extension that keeps Stewart at the anchor desk beyond the next presidential election. His previous deal ran out at the end of 2026, after a one-year renewal signed in November 2025.
Stewart stays inside the show's rotating lineup of hosts. That roster includes Ronny Chieng, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta and Desi Lydic, with Troy Iwata and Grace Kuhlenschmidt continuing as non-hosting correspondents. He also remains an executive producer alongside showrunner and executive producer Jen Flanz and his longtime manager, James "Baby Doll" Dixon.
What does the extension change for the network?
It locks Comedy Central's flagship franchise to its most bankable name during a period of corporate upheaval. Stewart last renewed his contract months after Paramount, Comedy Central's parent company, was acquired by Skydance Media. The new extension arrives weeks after the David Ellison-led conglomerate closed a merger between Paramount and Warner Bros.
The numbers explain the network's urgency. After Stewart returned to the program in February 2024, ratings rose. According to metrics provided by Paramount, "The Daily Show" is the most-viewed cable program across social media in 2026.
Skydance leadership framed the renewal as a strategic hold rather than a routine re-signing. George Cheeks, co-chair and chief content officer of Skydance TV, said: "Jon Stewart is a generational talent and 'The Daily Show' continues to be one of the most influential franchises on television and a cornerstone of Comedy Central. We are excited to continue our partnership with Jon and his award winning news team."
A chair with a long history
Stewart first took the hosting desk in 1999 and left in 2015. Trevor Noah succeeded him as anchor of the satirical news program and held the chair until stepping down in 2022. The show then cycled through guests and correspondents before Stewart's return in February 2024 reversed its ratings trajectory.
The extension now gives the franchise something it has rarely had since 2015: a committed host with a multi-year horizon. Stewart will preside over the program's satirical coverage of the next presidential election, an event cycle that historically delivers his sharpest material and largest audiences.
For the newly merged Paramount and Warner Bros., the deal secures a proven ratings engine at the exact moment the combined company must decide which brands anchor its television strategy.
