The Season 3 finale of “Lioness” drew 9.7 million viewers in its first seven days of availability — the most-watched episode in the series’ history and the No. 5 most-watched finale among all Paramount+ originals.
The numbers, reported by the streamer, close out a season that grew every single week. Season 3 ran from Aug. 2 to Sept. 20 and averaged 8.5 million viewers per week, a 62% jump from Season 2’s weekly average in 2024. Each week brought in more viewers than the one before.
How big is that for Paramount+?
Pretty big. A No. 5 ranking among all Paramount+ finale episodes puts “Lioness” in rare company for a platform that lives largely on Taylor Sheridan-brand programming. The show also held its own outside the Paramount+ ecosystem, landing on Nielsen and Luminate’s top 10 streaming charts eight weeks in a row.
Per Nielsen, the series posted its first-ever billion-minute total during finale week. Season 3 reached a cumulative 3.9 billion minutes watched over its eight-week run, up 62% from Season 2. Catch-up viewing stayed strong too: Seasons 1 and 2 logged a combined 2.5 million minutes watched in the same window.
Who makes the show?
Taylor Sheridan created “Lioness,” which is produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios. Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman star alongside Laysla De Oliveira, Genesis Rodriguez, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Hannah Love Lanier, Thad Luckinbill, Ian Bohen, Michael Kelly and Morgan Freeman.
Sheridan executive produces with David C. Glasser, Saldaña, Kidman, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Michael Friedman, Jill Wagner, David Lemanowicz, Geyer Kosinski and Keith Cox.
What does this change for the franchise?
A 62% season-over-season lift and record finale give Paramount+ a clear case for keeping the Sheridan machine running — and give “Lioness” a genuine claim to being one of the platform’s flagship titles rather than a supporting one. No renewal announcement accompanied the numbers, but momentum like this rarely goes unexploited.
