Loretta Lynn's Van Lear Rose Returns to Streaming on November 13
Third Man Records will reissue Loretta Lynn's 2004 Jack White collaboration Van Lear Rose on November 13, restoring the Grammy-winning album to streaming for the first time since 2021.
Programme
- Van Lear Rose reissue is scheduled for November 13 in vinyl and CD formats
- The album returns to streaming for the first time since being pulled in 2021
- Loretta Lynn and Jack White's 2004 collaboration won two Grammys, including Best Country Album
- The reissue adds the bonus track 'Just to Have You Back' from the 2015 Third Man Vault package
- Lynn's previous solo album, Who Was That Stranger, was released in 1988
Third Man Records will reissue Loretta Lynn's Van Lear Rose on November 13 in vinyl and CD formats, the label announced, marking the album's first return to streaming services since 2021.
The 2004 record, Lynn's landmark collaboration with Jack White, will be available on all major platforms for the first time in four years. The lead single "Miss Being Mrs." is already streaming.
Why was the album pulled from streaming?
The source does not specify why Van Lear Rose disappeared from streaming services in 2021. Pitchfork reported it had reached out to Third Man Records for comment on the circumstances. The November 13 reissue resolves the absence without publicly addressing its cause.
What does the new edition contain?
The reissue adds "Just to Have You Back" as a bonus track. That song previously appeared only on the 2015 Third Man Vault package, limiting access to subscribers of the label's membership series.
How did Van Lear Rose come together?
White produced and co-wrote the record, drawing Lynn out of a sixteen-year hiatus from solo recording. Her previous studio album, Who Was That Stranger, had been released in 1988.
The album produced two Grammy Awards:
- Best Country Collaboration With Vocals, for the duet "Portland Oregon"
- Best Country Album
Who is speaking for the Lynn estate?
Patsy Russell, Lynn's daughter, endorsed the reissue in a written statement. "It is an incredible honor to work again with Jack and his amazing team at Third Man to re-release this incredible album," Russell said. "Our mother's spirit lives on through this timeless music, and we are thrilled that fans old and new will be reminded of this great work."
Lynn died on October 4, 2022, at age 90, more than three years after the album's unexplained removal from streaming platforms.
What is the album's critical standing?
Pitchfork placed Van Lear Rose at No. 48 in its ranking of the 50 Best Albums of 2004, situating the record within a year that also featured releases from Wilco, Kanye West, and Loretta Lynn's contemporaries across country, rock, and pop.
What does the reissue change for listeners?
The November 13 release restores the full album to streaming catalogs alongside the physical editions. Listeners who heard Van Lear Rose only through digital means between 2004 and 2021 have had no authorized avenue to revisit it for four years, a gap the reissue closes simultaneously across vinyl, CD, and streaming.
Third Man Records, the Nashville-based label White founded in 2001, has handled Lynn's catalog since at least 2015. The November 13 reissue extends that partnership and reintroduces a 21-year-old album to a streaming-era audience that may not have encountered it on its original release.
The label has not announced further catalog projects tied to the Lynn estate.
