Mattel has released a $60 collectible Celine Dion Barbie, recreating the gown the singer wore at the 1998 Academy Awards, where she performed "My Heart Will Go On" from James Cameron's "Titanic." The doll is available exclusively through Mattel Creations.

The Barbie Signature release includes Dion's pale blue, long-sleeved Michael Kors gown and a necklace modeled on the Heart of the Ocean, the fictional blue diamond at the center of "Titanic." Mattel has not said how many units it will produce or how long the run will stay available — a detail that matters to collectors, and one the company's announcement leaves out.

"It is a true honor to join the Barbie legacy with a doll inspired by one of the most meaningful moments of my career," Dion said in a statement. "I hope this doll inspires everyone to express themselves with confidence, follow their dreams and believe in the power of their own voice."

The doll arrives at a specific moment in Dion's career. The 58-year-old singer returned to the concert stage last month after a six-year absence, opening a sold-out residency at Paris' Plenitude Arena on Sept. 12. That show was her first full-length concert since 2020 and her most substantial return to performing since she revealed her diagnosis with stiff-person syndrome in 2022.

The rare neurological disorder causes muscle stiffness and painful spasms. It forced Dion to cancel her remaining "Courage" world tour dates and raised doubts about whether she would perform live again. The 2024 Prime Video film "I Am: Celine Dion" documented those health struggles.

What does the comeback actually look like?

The record so far is concrete. Dion sang Édith Piaf's "Hymne à l'Amour" from the Eiffel Tower at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony. Her current Paris engagement runs through October and opened with "On ne change pas," followed by a career-spanning set of French- and English-language hits.

Additional Paris performances are planned for spring 2027. A scheduled return is not a completed one; the residency's autumn leg will show whether the pace holds.

Dion has sold more than 250 million albums worldwide. She joins a roster of musicians in Mattel's Barbie Signature collection that includes Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Stevie Nicks, Kylie Minogue, Gloria Estefan, Aaliyah and Elton John. In that lineup, Dion is neither the first nor the riskiest choice — she is a proven seller in a franchise Mattel keeps expanding.

Why the 1998 Oscars look?

The choice is straightforward merchandising logic. The Academy Awards performance tied Dion permanently to the biggest film of its era, and the Heart of the Ocean necklace gives the doll a recognizable visual anchor beyond a likeness. It is nostalgia with a built-in prop.

The Celine Dion Barbie Signature Doll retails for $60 at MattelCreations.com. Whether it becomes collectible or clearance depends entirely on how many Mattel makes — and on that, the company says nothing.
