Michal Marczak's Closure, winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and top prize at the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival 2026, will open in theaters on October 28 through distributor 1-2 Special. The first trailer has now arrived.

The Polish director, previously acclaimed for All These Sleepless Nights, again blurs the line between documentary and fiction with his new feature. Closure follows Daniel Dymiński, a father searching for his missing son, Chris, last seen by surveillance cameras walking on Warsaw's Gdańsk Bridge.

The official synopsis lays out the stakes: "CLOSURE follows Daniel Dymiński, an obsessed father on a mission to locate his son, Chris, who was last seen by surveillance cameras walking on Warsaw's Gdańsk Bridge. Armed with an arsenal of tools — from DIY inventions to GPS trackers to drones — Daniel scours the turbulent Vistula River on an all-consuming search, desperate for answers. As time passes, the Dymiński family must reckon with their loss and the possibility that they may never understand what really happened, yet Daniel refuses to quit trying, clinging to the hope that his son might still be alive."

The film documents Daniel's search along the Vistula, the river that flows through Warsaw, conducted with an improvised toolkit of homemade devices, GPS trackers and drones. As the search stretches on, the Dymiński family confronts the likelihood that the truth about Chris's disappearance may remain unknown. Daniel, according to the synopsis, does not stop — holding to the possibility that his son survived.

Marczak's approach earned the documentary its dual festival recognition. The Grand Jury Prize at Sundance marks one of the top documentary honors at the festival, and Thessaloniki's jury awarded the film its top prize in the documentary competition for 2026. Critics reviewing the film at The Film Stage have noted that Closure is shot with a level of craft that surpasses most narrative features released this year — a hallmark of Marczak's cinematic treatment of real events, first evident in All These Sleepless Nights, his earlier portrait of nocturnal Warsaw that blended documentary observation with staged sequences.

The October 28 theatrical release through 1-2 Special will give audiences their first chance to see the award-winning film outside the festival circuit. The trailer, released this week, offers the first extended look at Daniel's search and the family's ordeal ahead of that date.
