Netflix will release "Rob Lowe: The Outsider," a feature-length documentary tracing the actor's four-decade screen career, on November 24. The platform confirmed the date this week.

The film opens with Lowe's 1983 breakout in Francis Ford Coppola's "The Outsiders" and moves through his 1985 ensemble role in "St. Elmo's Fire." Seven seasons as Sam Seaborn on NBC's "The West Wing" anchor the middle of the documentary. Lowe earned an Emmy nomination for the performance.

Director Chris Smith, the filmmaker behind Netflix's 2020 hit "Tiger King," helms the project. Marc Gurvitz, Jon Liebman and Zoe Rogovin executive produce. Library Film's Chris Smith, Sydney Schwartz and Stacy Smith hold the producer credits.

What's in the wider package?

Netflix streams new video episodes of "Literally! With Rob Lowe" starting December 3, under a three-way partnership with SiriusXM, Netflix and Lowe.

Key rollout details:

  • More than 30 library episodes available at launch
  • Fresh video episodes ship every Thursday
  • Lowe created and hosts the program
  • Executive producers include Nick Liao, Adam Sachs and Jeff Ross
  • Sean Doherty of Team Coco produces; Sean Calvano serves as associate producer

The Thursday release schedule converts the podcast into a recurring habit rather than a one-time batch drop, giving listeners a sustained point of entry through the holiday corridor and into January.

Which holiday film lands alongside?

Netflix premieres the romantic comedy "In A Holidaze" on December 2, two days before the documentary's arrival. Lowe co-stars with Maddie Ziegler, the "Dance Moms" alumna.

The film adapts the 2020 novel of the same name by Christina Lauren, the pen name of writing partners Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings. Ziegler plays a woman caught in a Christmas time-loop at her family's cabin, forced to relive the same December until she identifies what brings her true happiness.

Tiffany Paulsen wrote and directed. Graham Phillips and Elias Kacavas round out the ensemble. Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton produce for Alloy Entertainment.

What does the schedule signal?

The 10-day window stacks three distinct Lowe-led properties—documentary, podcast and feature film—across a single holiday corridor. The clustering reflects Netflix's broader strategy of packaging legacy talent around seasonal demand windows, an approach the platform has used with high-profile comedians and musicians in recent quarters.

Lowe's rare triple-booking across formats places him inside a narrow group of performers commanding documentary, talk, and marquee feature releases within one season. The slate positions him as a multi-format anchor for the platform's most competitive commercial stretch of the year.
