  1. Park Avenue Armory's 2027 season marks the institution's 20th anniversary.

  3. Nikola Hillebrand and Xabier Anduaga both make North American recital debuts in spring 2027.

Park Avenue Armory has announced its 2027 season, marking the institution's 20th anniversary with a vocal lineup that includes four major recital debuts and a reimagined landmark opera.

The classical voice programming spans ten months, from February 4 to October 31, 2027. Three of the four featured singers will make North American recital debuts. One will make a US recital debut, and another a New York solo recital debut.

Who opens the vocal season?

Mezzo Beth Taylor opens the announced vocal events on February 4 and 6, 2027. She makes her US recital debut in a program of works by Alma Mahler, Gustav Mahler, Chrétien and Elgar. Pianist Hamish Brown accompanies.

What follows in spring?

Soprano Nikola Hillebrand presents her North American recital debut on March 31 and April 2, 2027. She sings Schubert, Mozart, Brahms, Mahler and Strauss with pianist Alexander Fleischer.

Spanish tenor Xabier Anduaga follows on May 27, 2027. He also makes his North American recital debut, joined by pianist Bryan Wagorn. The program is yet to be announced.

How is 'Einstein on the Beach' being reimagined?

The season's largest vocal-adjacent production arrives in September. Director Phelim McDermott presents a reimagined version of Philip Glass and Robert Wilson's "Einstein on the Beach," with set design by Tom Pye. The cast is yet to be announced.

Performances run September 14–29, 2027. The original 1976 work, created by Glass and Wilson, remains one of the defining achievements of late-20th-century avant-garde theater.

Who closes the vocal lineup?

Le Bu closes the announced vocal programming on October 29 and 31, 2027. He makes his New York solo recital debut with pianist Artyom Pak. Their program features works by Schubert, Duparc, Ralph Vaughan Williams and Mussorgsky.

What does the season signal?

The 2027 lineup concentrates debut appearances rather than established New York recitalists, giving the Armory's 55,000-square-foot drill hall and smaller spaces a role as a launch platform for international singers arriving in the US market.

In plain terms: the Armory is betting its 20th-anniversary vocal season on singers New York audiences have not yet heard in recital.

With programs still unannounced for Anduaga and an unstated cast for the McDermott staging, further details are expected before tickets go on sale.
