Parker Posey will star in "Sleepover," a horror movie from Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Universal Pictures that reaches theaters on Oct. 8, 2027, Variety reveals exclusively. That's the hard fact. Everything else, including the plot, stays locked in a drawer.

Jacob Chase directs, working from a script he co-wrote with Bryce McGuire, the screenwriter of "Night Swim." The film adapts McGuire's original short story. No further casting has been announced, and plot details remain under wraps.

Who is Parker Posey playing?

Nobody is saying. What we know is the casting logic: Posey has horror credentials and a recent profile boost. She was the eccentric rising star Jennifer Jolie in 2000's "Scream 3," and the vampire CEO Danica Talos in 2004's "Blade: Trinity." Both were villains, both were memorable, and neither required her to be likable.

Her recent run includes Josh Margolin's "Thelma," Ari Aster's "Beau Is Afraid," and the third season of HBO's "White Lotus." She can next be seen in Martin McDonagh's "Wild Horse Nine," which premiered at the 2026 Venice Film Festival and stars John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell; Searchlight releases it on Nov. 6. She also hosts the reality competition series "The Mob," debuting on Hulu on Oct. 26.

Why Blumhouse bet on Jacob Chase

The production roster tells the story. Jason Blum produces. Chase, McGuire and Bea Sequeira serve as executive producers, with Lilly Tyson overseeing the project. "Sleepover" is a Cinescape Entertainment production, presented by Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

Chase is a known quantity for the company. Blumhouse Atomic Monster also produced his "Insidious: Out of the Further," the sixth film in the franchise, which opened in August to $60 million worldwide and went on to gross $169 million against an $18 million budget. That's the kind of arithmetic that buys a filmmaker his next job.

Chase's earlier credits include the 2020 horror film "Come Play" and the Peacock original series "The Girl and the Woods."

What happens next?

Expect more casting news as the Oct. 8, 2027 date approaches, along with the eventual reveal of what, exactly, makes this sleepover worth dreading. Posey is represented by CAA, Entertainment 360, Yorn, Levine, Barnes, Krintzman, Rubenstein, Kohner, Endlich, Goodell & Gellman and Independent Public Relations. For now, the logline stays in the sleeping bag.
