Rosamund Pike will star in and produce "Feed," a body horror movie directed by Leslye Headland from a script by Daniella Isaacs. The project, inspired by the 2022 Finnish horror film "Hatching," heads to the American Film Market next week, where sales will commence.
The official logline for "Feed" reads: "When a desperate mother discovers an obscure collagen supplement that promises to make her tween gymnast daughter an influencer star, the fame and success they crave come fast. But as her daughter goes viral, she begins a monstrous transformation."
"Long have I wanted to make a film that plays anarchically with our obsession with social media and self-improvement, our desire for fame without notable admirable skill and, let's put it out there, the monstrosity of modern motherhood," Pike said. "'Feed' deals with all these things."
Who is producing and selling the film?
Pike produces through her Primitive Streak banner. The producing team also includes:
- Shelley Browning for Magnolia Entertainment
- Steven Schneider for Spooky Pictures
- Ara Keshishian and Petr Jakl for ZQ Entertainment
- Sam Ritzenberg for Agile Films
ZQ Entertainment financed development on the project. The Veterans will represent international sales rights, while CAA Media Finance handles the United States.
"Daniella's script is audacious, disturbing and deeply human and Rosamund is among the boldest actors working today," Headland said. "I couldn't ask for better partners to take on the darker corners of this story and I feel incredibly lucky to be making this film with two women whose work I admire so much."
What does the project change for each woman's career?
For Pike, "Feed" adds a producing vehicle to a busy acting slate. Pike, best known for "Gone Girl," "Pride & Prejudice" and "Die Another Day," was last seen in Guy Ritchie's action comedy "In the Grey" alongside Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal. Her recent credits include "Ladies First," "Now You See Me: Now You Don't" and "Hallow Road." In 2027, she reunites with Ritchie for "Wife and Dog," which also stars Anthony Hopkins and Benedict Cumberbatch.
For Headland, "Feed" marks a return to feature directing. She has not directed since helming the short-lived Disney+ series "The Acolyte." Her earlier television work includes "Single Drunk Female," "Almost Family" and "Black Monday." Her last feature directorial credit came in 2015 with "Sleeping with Other People." She also has "Cult of Love," a Christmas family dramedy, currently in pre-production.
Pike is repped by CAA, United Agents and Magnolia Entertainment. Headland is repped by CAA and Sugar23. Isaacs is repped by Curtis Brown Group.
With financing secured, a director attached and AFM sales launching next week, "Feed" moves from development toward production — and gives both star and director their sharpest genre pivot in years.
