Rush announced five Sphere dates for May 2027: May 21, 23, 26, 28 and 30, under the banner “Elevate From the Norm.” The Live Nation-produced engagement adds a Las Vegas residency (a run of shows at one venue) to the band’s touring schedule.
How will tickets work?
Tickets for the public go on sale Nov. 13. An artist presale (an early sale for eligible fans) begins Nov. 11.
Rush Backstage and Rush Newsletter subscribers receive a bonus two-hour window to purchase VIP and Travel packages beginning “this Friday” at 10 a.m. PT. The artist presale begins “next Wednesday,” also at 10 a.m. PT. Fans will register through Seated and receive a presale code offering early ticket access.
The Rush announcement also listed available dates for the remainder of the “Fiftysomething” world tour.
Rush’s North American dates continue through Dec. 17. An international leg starts Jan. 15 in Buenos Aires and currently closes April 10 in Helsinki. The Sphere engagement follows in May. The report described this year’s reunion tour as highly successful.
What will Rush play at Sphere?
In the announcement statement, singer-bassist Geddy Lee connected the booking to Rush’s visual design and said:
“When I first heard of Sphere, I thought to myself, ‘wow, what a shame that Rush is no longer touring, because this venue sounds tailor made for the kind of visual attitude with which we have always designed our shows.’
Normally we spend months designing the visual effects for our shows and this scenario seemed like the cherry on top of the ice cream for our design team.
But life is nothing if not surprising and now, here we are, living and touring in the present tense and we are able to make that particular dream come true.”
Lee’s pitch was continuity rather than novelty. Rush normally spends months designing its visual effects, and he presented Sphere as a way to put that work to new use.
Lee then set out the proposed musical scope:
“We are presently working hard to expand our touring concepts and concoct some new madness to suit this incredible venue and musically perform the kind of show we’ve been doing in some of our ‘one off’ cities.
Meaning playing all of ‘2112’ and all of ‘Moving Pictures’ along with an array of other songs.
We are so effin’ excited to make use of this incredible opportunity to please our fans both visually and viscerally- from wherever they might fly in from. Gonna be so much fun.”
Both “2112” and “Moving Pictures” would run in full, according to Lee. The program would also include an array of other songs. Lee framed the run as an expansion of Rush’s touring concepts, with new visual work designed for Sphere.
Is five dates a full residency?
According to the report, Sphere residencies typically outlast five dates, with additional shows added indefinitely as the first ones sell out. By Sphere’s standards, Rush’s booking resembles an opening run rather than a full residency. The initial agreement contains five dates, but the source expects that number may grow.
The report also judged that most acts do well at Sphere, whose residencies operate apart from standard touring plans. Rush’s itinerary makes that break visible. Its international leg ends in Helsinki on April 10, and Las Vegas opens May 21.
Why does Rush still matter in 2027?
Rush appeared to be finished after original drummer Neal Peart died in 2020. Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson instead announced they would take the road in 2026 with former Jeff Beck drummer Anika Nilles as the group’s touring drummer. The announcement surprised the wider audience, and some fans initially showed skepticism.
According to the report, this year’s shows and Nilles’s role have since drawn nearly unanimous approval from the Rush faithful. The 2027 Sphere dates therefore extend a lineup that has already found its public footing within the post-Peart band.
The next test is straightforward: whether early sales justify more dates. Rush has supplied the musicians, repertoire and five openings. The audience will decide how long the run becomes.
