Sarah Jessica Parker has never worn a single piece of her archived "Sex and the City" wardrobe — not once in 27 years of playing Carrie Bradshaw's off-screen life. She keeps the entire archive. She does not touch it.
"No, I don't wear any of the wardrobe that I wore on the show ever. I have it. It's an archive, but I never wear it. I never have," Parker told People in a recent interview.
Why won't Parker wear the clothes?
The reason, Parker explained, is that the one-of-a-kind outfits have already lived their life on screen. Wearing them now would feel like putting on a costume from a different character entirely.
"There's a huge separation between myself and Carrie Bradshaw," Parker said. "So it would be like walking around in Sarah Sanderson's costume."
Sarah Sanderson is Parker's witch character from "Hocus Pocus." The comparison is deliberate: Bradshaw's tutus and Manolo Blahniks belong to a fictional woman, not to the actress who played her.
"It doesn't seem applicable to my life," Parker added.
The statement carries weight given Bradshaw's cultural standing. The HBO series, which ran from 1998 to 2004, built its protagonist's reputation on trend-setting outfits that influenced a generation of viewers. Parker herself revisited the role in two films and again in the spinoff series "And Just Like That…", which ran from 2021 to 2025.
How did Parker say goodbye?
The spinoff's end marked an official farewell to Bradshaw and her wardrobe. Parker delivered an emotional goodbye on social media when the series concluded.
"Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all," Parker wrote. "I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion. Therefore the most sentimental and profound gratitude and lifetime of debt. To you all."
Parker declared that "this chapter is complete" and called "And Just Like That" a "joy, adventure, the greatest kind of hard work alongside the most extraordinary talent of 380 that includes all the brilliant actors who joined us."
What happens to the archive now?
Parker has not announced plans for the wardrobe's future — whether it will go to a museum, an exhibition, or storage indefinitely. Costume archives from landmark television series have increasingly become exhibition material in recent years, and the Bradshaw collection ranks among the most recognizable in television history.
For now, the archive sits unworn. Parker has played her final scene as Bradshaw, and the clothes, like the character, have retired to memory.
