- K D Schmid, the Berlin-based agency, has signed Spanish violinist María Dueñas through its London office.
- Dueñas, 23, joins from Künstlersekretariat Gasteig in Munich.
- Dueñas thanked Gasteig's Lothar Schacke by name for years of career support.
- The move was reported by Slippedisc in October 2026.
K D Schmid has signed the Spanish violinist María Dueñas, 23, Slippedisc reports. The Berlin-based agency's London office pulled off the transfer from Künstlersekretariat Gasteig, the Munich outfit that has guided her career to date.
It's a statement move. Dueñas is one of the fastest-rising violinists of her generation, and agencies don't quietly acquire artists with that trajectory. They announce them.
What does the change mean for Dueñas?
The violinist herself framed the switch as a matter of shared vision rather than money or prestige. She said: 'I feel a strong sense of trust and inspiration in our shared vision for the future, and I am truly looking forward to working together with the (Schmid) team.'
That's the forward-looking half of her statement. The backward-looking half is warmer and, frankly, more interesting. Dueñas didn't leave Gasteig on bad terms — she left with a thank-you note.
She continued: 'At the same time, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Lothar Schacke and everyone at Künstlersekretariat Gasteig for their dedicated support, warmth, and guidance over the past years, which have meant so much to me as my career has developed.'
Naming Lothar Schacke personally is a courtesy you don't always see in these announcements. Agency transfers in classical music are usually handled with the warmth of a corporate merger. This one reads more like an amicable divorce.
Who are the players?
For readers new to the business side of classical music:
- K D Schmid: a Berlin-based artists' agency (a company that manages bookings and career strategy for performers), operating the London office that signed Dueñas.
- Künstlersekretariat Gasteig: the Munich agency, led by Lothar Schacke, that represented Dueñas during her rise.
- María Dueñas: the 23-year-old Spanish violinist at the center of the deal, described by Slippedisc as fast-rising.
The move signals where Dueñas's career is heading. A 23-year-old violinist switching to an international agency with a London foothold is building infrastructure for a global solo career, not a regional one. Agencies of Schmid's scale exist to service that level of touring, recording and orchestral relationships.
For Gasteig, the loss stings. Developing artists early is the agency business's most rewarding work and its most thankless — you nurture the career, then a larger rival collects it. Schacke's shop has done exactly that, and Dueñas's gracious exit statement is at least an acknowledgment of the debt.
For Schmid, the signature is a bet on trajectory. The agency now holds a violinist whose career has, by Slippedisc's account, been rising fast enough to prompt the swoop in the first place.
What happens next is the usual test: whether the new partnership converts momentum into the next tier of engagements. Dueñas, for her part, says she's looking forward to it. The handshake is done; the seasons ahead will judge it.
