Sienna Spiro Wins Best New Artist at 2026 MTV VMAs

Sienna Spiro has won the 2026 VMA for Best New Artist, joining a roster of past recipients that includes Nirvana, Eminem, Olivia Rodrigo, and Billie Eilish.

The award caps a rapid rise for the British singer. Earlier in the night, Spiro performed at the VMAs for the first time, playing "Great Expectation" on the Peacock Theater stage in Los Angeles.

"I didn't think this would happen, so I just have to say thank you so much," Spiro said in her acceptance speech. "Thank you to the fans and the people that voted for me. I love you. I can't believe this."

She thanked her team at Capitol Records, the women in her crew, her mother, and her sister. She appeared ready to continue through more names, then cut herself short with a breathless "I don't even know."

Alex Warren, last year's Best New Artist winner, presented Spiro with the award. She beat a field of rising stars: Bella Kay, Cortis, Magnus Ferrell, Malcolm Todd, Myles Smith, and Stella Lefty.

Like most of her fellow nominees, Spiro spent years making music and posting it on TikTok before breaking through. Her jazzy sound, inspired by Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone, and Etta James, sets her apart from her peers. Her breakthrough came last fall with "Die on the Hill," which reached new fans across the Atlantic just ahead of the 2026 release of her debut album, Visitor.

Snoop Dogg hosted the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards. The ceremony aired live Sunday on CBS and MTV and streamed on Paramount+ (Premium) from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

With a Best New Artist Moon Person and a debut album now behind her, Spiro heads into the post-Visitor cycle with the kind of mainstream validation that past winners from Nirvana to Billie Eilish used as a launchpad.
