Five Sonic the Hedgehog learning games launch on Lingokids on December 3, marking the start of a partnership between Sega and the children's gaming platform that will add five more Sonic titles in spring 2027.

The games were developed jointly by Sega and Lingokids Studios. Sega says they combine "fast-paced adventures with playful learning experiences" and feature Sonic characters including Sonic himself, Amy, Eggman and the fan-favorite Chao creatures.

The suite is built around concrete early-learning tasks. According to the official description, "Kids can strengthen their spelling and letter recognition skills while discovering action verbs as they race through Green Hill Zone, explore fruits and flowers while guiding Sonic and friends along exciting paths and unleash their creativity by painting colorful scenes with their favorite characters."

Why did Sega choose Lingokids?

The data made the case. Lingokids' 2026 Kids Interactive Entertainment Report found that Sonic the Hedgehog is the second-most popular character among boys ages 3 to 8. The same study showed that roughly one in six children on Lingokids discover new characters on the platform for the first time, and more than half then ask to watch movies and shows featuring characters they first met there.

Demand from families drove the deal, according to Lingokids Studios chief Mathias Royer. "Simply put for us, families have been asking for Sonic for a while now," Royer told Variety. "It's the most searched character on the platform by far and it was an obvious fit for us to to go with Sonic."

For Sega, the partnership is a deliberate push into a younger audience. Hez Chorba, vice president of strategy and creative for emerging digital platforms at Sega of America, said the platform's safety standards were central: "no ads, no chat, every piece of content vetted by education experts."

"We always want to meet the fans where they're at, and we're diving back into younger demographics at this point with Sonic as entry points," Chorba said. "So when Lingokids came to us and they showed us the data that Sonic was the most-searched character, we were like, OK, well this is parents now talking to us, telling us, hey, we need this. So that means that you have core fans out there that you want to make sure have the tools to introduce Sonic to their kids."

What does this change for young players?

The deal gives Sega a curated, ad-free route into the 3-to-8 demographic, and it gives Lingokinds' audience a character its users already search for in an educational format designed for their age group.

The scale is substantial. Lingokids says its platform is used by more than 20 million children each month and has reached nearly 200 million downloads worldwide. The service hosts more than 4,000 games, shows and songs.

Lingokids has a track record of brand partnerships. Previous deals include Disney, Blippi, NASA, BBC Earth and Oxford University Press. The Sega agreement for Sonic is its most recent.

With the first five games arriving December 3 and five more slated for spring 2027, Sega has committed to a sustained presence on the platform — a sign that the company sees preschool-aged players as a long-term audience for a character now more than three decades old.
