'Thelma & Louise' Becomes a Musical at London's Young Vic

The 1991 road-movie story of "Thelma & Louise" has shifted into a musical gear at the Young Vic theater in London, with songs by singer-songwriter Neko Case.

Rachel Tucker stars as Louise and Amy Lennox plays Thelma in the stage adaptation, according to the production's announcement.

Who stars in the musical?

The casting pairs two established musical-theater names. Tucker takes on Louise, the role originated on screen by Susan Sarandon's counterpart in the source film's pairing; Lennox appears as Thelma.

What makes this adaptation notable?

The involvement of Neko Case marks the production's most distinctive creative choice. Case, known for her solo career and work with The New Pornographers, supplies the songs for the show, giving the adaptation a musical identity rooted in indie rock rather than traditional theater composition.

The Young Vic, one of London's major producing houses, hosts the run.

The adaptation's arrival signals continued interest in translating landmark American films to the London stage with high-profile musical artists attached — a formula audiences can expect to see tested when the production opens to critics and audiences at the Young Vic.
