U2 have officially announced their first album of new material in nearly a decade. The album, titled Carnaval de Luz, will be released on 13 November.
The record is the Irish rock band's 16th studio album. The Edge has described it as "a messy, provocative, sacred collection of songs".
The album's 12 tracks close with Torn, the final recorded performance by Dolly Parton. Parton duets with Bono on the song, which press materials describe as "a tender country song detailing broken family ties, that holds wider resonances".
Parton died aged 80 on 25 August. Her duet with Bono now stands as her last recorded work, giving Carnaval de Luz a weight beyond its status as U2's long-awaited follow-up to their previous studio output.
For U2, the release ends a near-decade wait for new material from one of rock's most enduring acts. For Parton's audience, it preserves one more performance — a closing statement from a singer whose career spanned generations.
