Underscores brought out Jane Remover as a surprise guest at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, last night, and the pair debuted a new, still-untitled song. The appearance came during Underscores' run supporting Charli xcx. Footage of the live debut is circulating now, and it answers a question fans have asked for months: yes, the collaboration is real.
How long has this been coming?
Since at least June. Both artists discussed a potential collaboration with Pitchfork this year. In an interview with Mano Sundaresan published in June, Jane Remover said Underscores' April Harper Grey "just gotta send me some shit."
Jane Remover explained how the exchange started: "She hit me up before we both had to leave on our respective tours and she was like, Oh, you want me to send you some shit? And I was like, Yeah, totally."
Nothing came of it immediately. Tours intervened. The song took its time.
What did Jane Remover say about the pairing?
The quote, verbatim, is worth the wait. "This is just karmic, you know? It's fated," Jane Remover told Pitchfork. "But that's my fucking sister. I love her to the moon and back."
That's about as clear a signal as pop gives you. The two artists, both fixtures of the internet-native underground that Pitchfork has tracked across the year, treated the collaboration less like a business decision and more like an inevitability.
Why the Kia Forum moment matters
The venue is the detail. The Kia Forum is an arena, not a club, and Underscores was there opening for Charli xcx — an artist whose own arena run has made surprise guests a recurring draw. Debuting an unfinished, untitled song in that setting is a statement of confidence. Most artists save unreleased material for smaller rooms.
The song has no title yet and no release date. What it has is a live debut, a room full of witnesses, and two musicians who have spent the year telling anyone who asked that they were going to work together.
For now, the footage is the record. Whether the track arrives officially — and under what name — is the next question, and neither artist has answered it yet.
