What position did Adam Brody take on Palestine?

In a recent GQ interview, Adam Brody said: “Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide. Put me down as wanting a free Palestine.”

He continued: “It’s awful that it’s taken so much death and misery, but it does feel like it’s reaching a breaking point that it should have a while ago.”

In the same GQ interview, Brody said he had discussed the Israel-Gaza conflict “a lot” in his personal life but had not addressed it publicly before because it did not tend to come up.

He explained his decision to speak: “I just answer the questions I’m asked,” he said. “And it’s true. I’m not wearing a pin, so I’m not inviting a certain question, and perhaps I should. I really admire people who do. But 99% of what I’m asked about is about the show.”

He added: “I’m not trying to plead ignorance — here we are doing a political interview, so it makes sense that we wade into this territory — but I’ve never ducked a question, really, not a political question anyway.”

Brody has now stated his political position plainly after keeping the conflict out of earlier public interviews.

How does Erin Foster respond to Brody?

Entertainment Weekly reported Foster’s remarks on an upcoming episode of the “Not Skinny but Not Fat” podcast hosted by Amanda Hirsch.

Foster said: “You know, it’s complicated,” of Brody’s comments. “I think our work environment, our set is very similar to dinner tables around the world where people are having debate and discussion and disagreeing. And, you know, while I love Adam, I also disagree with him, and that’s OK.”

Entertainment Weekly reported that fans of “Nobody Wants This” responded to Brody’s GQ statement with backlash. Brody grew up in a Jewish family, and he previously told Variety he is “not religious.”

Foster based “Nobody Wants This” on her own experience converting to Judaism before marrying her husband. The Netflix series follows a rabbi who falls in love with a girl who is not Jewish, and stars Brody opposite Kristen Bell.

Foster also addressed Jewish viewers directly. She wants “our Jewish fans to know that I see you and I hear you and I understand how you feel.”

Foster separates her disagreement with Brody from her stated purpose for the series.

What did Foster mean by a “love letter to Judaism”?

Foster said: “The show has always been and always will be a love letter to Judaism. That is why I made this show. It’s because of how beautiful of an experience I’ve had becoming Jewish and being a Jewish person.”

She continued: “And sitting here right now, at this time in the world when there is almost zero positive representation of Jewish people, I think it’s so important to have that.”

Foster continued: “Everyone is entitled to a different opinion,” adding: “I can just tell you what I created this show for, and what the intention of the show is.”

Entertainment Weekly reported that season 3 of “Nobody Wants This” is now streaming on Netflix. For Foster and Brody, the disagreement is public while the show’s Jewish identity remains explicitly stated.
