Adam Brody Calls for a 'Free Palestine,' Says He Has Never 'Ducked' a Political Question

Adam Brody has called for a "free Palestine" and described the war in Gaza as "a genocide," in a new interview with GQ.

The actor, who stars as rabbi Noah Roklov in the Netflix romantic comedy series "Nobody Wants This," told the magazine that he had never avoided political questions — they simply rarely come up on press junkets.

"I just answer the questions I'm asked," Brody told GQ. "And it's true. I'm not wearing a pin, so I'm not inviting a certain question, and perhaps I should. I really admire people who do. But 99% of what I'm asked about is about the show. I'm not trying to plead ignorance — here we are doing a political interview, so it makes sense that we wade into this territory — but I've never ducked a question, really, not a political question anyway."

Brody, who rose to fame on "The O.C.," said the Israel-Gaza conflict had not been part of his public record before, but that it comes up "a lot" for him in private. Then he made his position explicit.

"Put me down as thinking it's a genocide," he said. "Put me down as wanting a free Palestine. It's awful that it's taken so much death and misery, but it does feel like it's reaching a breaking point that it should have a while ago."

The actor also addressed his decision to stay off social media entirely, calling it "the healthiest thing." He framed his absence as a deliberate choice rather than a sacrifice.

"I'm forced to use a lot of tools and products where I don't believe in the heads of those companies, but I'm sure as shit not going to be on anything that Elon Musk is a part of," he said. "I know people are doing really good work on [X], and I'm really glad about that. But it's not for me, and I don't have any guilt about not being on it. Sorry, I feel great about it."

Brody's public profile has risen sharply since "Nobody Wants This" premiered on Netflix in 2024. The series, created by Erin Foster, who executive produces alongside showrunners Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, pairs his rabbi character with Kristen Bell's Joanne.

Season 3 arrives on the streamer on Oct. 22. Netflix's official description reads: "That 'first time' feeling, all over again. After recommitting to each other at the end of last season, Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody) are moving into a home — and a relationship — that finally feels solid, embracing every exciting 'first' that comes with building their life together."

The new season also expands the supporting cast's storylines: "Sasha (Timothy Simons) and Esther (Jackie Tohn) are thrust back into the dating world, whether they like it or not, stumbling through all the awkwardness (and unexpected thrill) of getting to know someone new, right as Morgan (Justine Lupe) takes her career to the next level, on her way to becoming an (almost) media sensation. Meanwhile, Sasha and Morgan have been circling something neither of them has been able to admit to."

The GQ interview lands weeks before that premiere, giving Brody's most explicit political statement to date a wide audience just as he returns to one of Netflix's flagship comedies.
