Amy Poehler urged Noah Wyle to bring more romance to HBO’s The Pitt on Tuesday’s episode of her Good Hang podcast, ahead of a Season 3 premiere scheduled for January 2027.

Poehler and Wyle discussed ER and The Pitt during the conversation, which followed Wyle’s appointment as People’s Sexiest Man Alive. Her comments about The Pitt focused on its lack of romance. The exchange mixed a specific creative complaint with a deliberately crude running joke.

Poehler’s one-for-one pitch

Poehler framed the advice as unsolicited. “You’re not asking me for feedback on ‘The Pitt,’ but I’m going to give you a little bit of feedback,” she said.

She credited the makeup team and described the drama’s physical intensity. “If you’re going to show so much guts and blood, if you’re gonna go there — and your makeup team is incredible.”

Poehler also admitted that some of the material overwhelmed her. “The stuff you do is bananas. I don’t watch most of it. I cover my eyes, but I mean, I can’t take it.”

Her argument linked that intensity to romance. “But if you’re going to show that much, every time you got to get a little smooch. Someone’s gotta do a little smooch.”

The prescription then became arithmetic. “One for one, just a tiny smooch,” Poehler said, adding, “Just one middle of the day [smooch]!”

Wyle challenged the premise: “Oh, you think it’s one for one?” He did not concede the point, though he said he would “maybe” discuss a “one-to-four ratio, but certainly not one to one.”

Poehler closed with the episode’s bluntest line. “You gonna show the guts, you gotta show some butts.” Wyle pointed out that The Pitt does show butts, but not in romantic contexts.

The role behind the banter

Wyle has played the disgruntled attending physician Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch for two seasons of HBO’s drama The Pitt. His portrayal won him the 2026 Golden Globe for best performance by a male actor in a television series, drama. It also earned back-to-back Emmy awards for best actor in a drama series in 2025 and 2026.

The awards record gives the exchange its stakes. A show built around graphic medical crises and a doctor’s return to work now carries a playful challenge about intimacy. The banter sets bodily intensity against the intimacy that the drama has left largely unseen.

What does this change for Season 3?

Nothing in the exchange signals a script or casting change. Poehler offered a promotional argument for more romance, not a production decision. Wyle’s response kept the debate playful and left his proposed one-to-four ratio open to discussion.

Season 3 will follow Dr. Robby’s first day back on the job after a three-month sabbatical at the end of Season 2. The series is set to premiere in January 2027.

The full Good Hang episode is available to watch. For viewers, January 2027 brings a return and an unresolved debate about romance, not a confirmed change in the show’s balance.
