Aston Martin has completed Sylvan Rock, its first residential project in the United States, in the town of Red Hook, Upstate New York. The automotive company collaborated with US studio S3 Architecture on the compound, whose faceted black-metal roofline conforms to the outcroppings of stone on the site.

The house was built to follow the site's slope. At the low end, the roof meets the ground, covering a walkway that leads to the primary entrance.

"When designing, we always let the land speak first and respond to it," said S3 Architecture partner Christopher Dierig.

"The roofline mimics the jagged edges of the rock ledge reaching down into the earth, as if the home is born of and launching from the landscape," Dierig continued.

How Does the House Meet the Rock?

A stairway leads up from the lower entrance into the primary spaces of the house, which has two storeys sitting on top of the outcropping. The lower level also holds a garage that forms a plinth for one of two swimming pool areas. Part of the garage was carved into the rock, and the studio described it as "subterranean".

The main, elevated body of the residence has glass walls interspersed with black metal panelling. Four bedrooms and five bathrooms are spread across this space. Living and dining areas sit on the ground plane, in line with the pool areas. A glass bridge connects an auxiliary spa and sauna space.

What Did Aston Martin Design?

The interiors, largely monotone, receive luxury wood finishes and stone. A floating staircase occupies the middle of the plan and gives access to the upper level, which holds the bedroom suites and features balconies looking out into the wooded landscape. Wooden ceilings and beams lighten the space, and multiple fireplaces appear in the living areas, including the primary suite upstairs.

The Aston Martin team designed these interior spaces, which also feature one-of-a-kind custom furniture by the brand. Certain elements reference the company's branding directly: the brand's lattice motif covers the wine storage in the primary lounge, and a movie theatre includes seating reminiscent of automobile seats.

The site also includes guest residences, a pavilion and a treehouse. The guest residences feature similar metal roofs and exteriors.

Where Does the Project Fit in the Brand-Architecture Trend?

Sylvan Rock is one of two branded residences by Aston Martin planned worldwide, with the other located in Japan. The project follows a broader trend of automotive brands entering architecture, directly designing residences and even skyscrapers, especially in the US. Bugatti unveiled a branded skyscraper design for Miami in September 2026, while Aston Martin completed its own skyscraper in Miami in 2024.

For Aston Martin, Sylvan Rock signals a deepening commitment to branded living beyond the showroom — and, with a second residence planned for Japan, the brand's architectural ambitions now extend across two continents.
