Ben Hardy to Lead Amazon's 'Stillwater' Graphic Novel Adaptation

Ben Hardy will star in Amazon Prime Video's series adaptation of the Skybound graphic novel "Stillwater," according to Variety. The streamer greenlit the show in July and has ordered eight one-hour episodes.

The series centers on ex-con Daniel West, played by Hardy. According to the official logline, "Stillwater" is a "mind-bending horror thriller that focuses on ex-con Daniel West (Hardy). When Daniel receives a mysterious letter promising answers about his past and a substantial inheritance in the small town of Stillwater, he discovers a community where nothing ever ages, no one ever dies, and nobody ever gets out."

Series writers and executive producers Greg Berlanti and Carly Wray cast Hardy after a long pursuit. "We've been fans of Ben's for a long time, and we're thrilled to get to tell this story together," the pair said in a statement. "There's a toughness to him, but also something incredibly open and soulful underneath it. Daniel needs both. From the moment we saw Ben in the role, it was impossible to imagine anyone else."

Hardy's screen credits span film and television. He appeared in "The Conjuring: Last Rites," "Bohemian Rhapsody," "6 Underground," "Only the Brave," and "X-Men: Apocalypse." His television work includes "The Girl Before," "The Woman in White," and "EastEnders." He is repped by UTA, Principal Entertainment LA and Independent Talent Group.

Chip Zdarsky and Ramón K Pérez created the original graphic novel. Wray and Berlanti co-wrote the pilot episode and serve as executive producers, with Berlanti producing through Berlanti Productions. Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, and Robbie Rogers of Berlanti Productions also executive produce, alongside Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Rick Jacobs, Glenn Geller, and Zdarsky for Skybound Entertainment. Jonathan Gabay serves as an executive producer as well.

Warner Bros. Television and Amazon MGM Studios will produce the series. Both Berlanti and Wray hold overall deals at WBTV, tying two of the studio's most established television creatives to the adaptation.

With its lead cast and an eight-episode order secured, "Stillwater" now moves toward production as one of Amazon's most high-profile comics adaptations, pairing a best-selling graphic novel with a proven showrunning team.
