Britney Spears said she "will find a new family" in an Instagram post published Monday, Nov. 2, after alleging that her ex-husband Kevin Federline and her sister Jamie Lynn Spears made her "feel like a slave."

The allegations concern family visits, including trips to pick up her two sons at Federline's home. Spears wrote that Jamie Lynn never allowed her to hold her sister's daughter Ivey during visits to Louisiana, and that Federline barred her from using the bathroom in his house.

"Jamie Lynn never let me hold Ivy [sic] one time when I would visit in Louisiana during covid in two week trips and Kevin wouldn't let me use the bathroom when I would pick my children up in their house !!!," Spears wrote. "They made me feel like a slave and have all their secret things they did behind my back and all I ever did was work for my dad."

She closed the post flatly: "I will find a new family !!!"

The post carried an image of a young Dakota Fanning flipping the middle finger in the 2003 film Uptown Girls.

What is the backstory here?

Spears spent 13 years under a conservatorship (a court arrangement placing her finances and personal decisions under her father's control), which ended in November 2021. She has repeatedly framed that period as forced labor for her family's benefit — "all I ever did was work for my dad," as she put it in this week's post.

Her most recent album, Glory, dates to 2016. In October, she released "She'll Never Be Me," a song written with Justin Timberlake that was originally intended for her album Britney.

In February, it was revealed that Spears sold the rights to her complete music catalog to Primary Wave, a music publishing and talent management company, for an undisclosed price.

What legal troubles have followed?

Spears was later charged with a DUI (driving under the influence) and ordered to 12 months of summary probation. The sentence includes a three-month DUI class, weekly meetings with her psychologist, and twice-monthly visits with her psychiatrist.

The Instagram post is the latest in a run of public statements in which Spears has accused family members of mistreatment during and after the conservatorship. Neither Federline nor Jamie Lynn Spears has responded in the source report.

Whether "a new family" means distance, therapy or simply a caption remains to be seen. The post, at least, leaves no ambiguity about the wound.
