Charli xcx Cancels Arizona Show After Losing Her Voice

Charli xcx cancelled Wednesday’s “Music, Fashion, Film” performance at Glendale’s Desert Diamond Arena after illness left the pop singer without her voice. The pop singer announced the cancellation in a social media post. The date formed part of her 12-date tour across North America.

Charli xcx said she had been fighting sickness through the run and had completely lost her voice. “I put absolutely everything I have into my performances, both physically and emotionally, and it breaks me that I can’t be with you tomorrow,” she wrote.

In the same post, Charli xcx said her team had worked hard to find a new date but had been unable to do so. She said she was disappointed and promised to return to Arizona in the future. She continued: “Again, I’m sorry to the angels who had made plans to be there tomorrow. I know how much time, planning and care it takes to come to concerts and appreciate everyone’s support immensely.”

Her apology recognized the work that fans had undertaken to attend. Her account centered on illness, the physical and emotional demands of performing, and a complete loss of voice.

What happens to Arizona ticket holders?

Ticketmaster buyers will receive automatic refunds, according to the announcement. Tickets bought through any other seller will be refunded at the point of purchase. No replacement show accompanied either refund route. Fans receive money back, but Charli xcx’s promise to return does not itself create a performance they can buy tickets for.

Charli xcx promised to return to Arizona, but she did not announce a scheduled performance, a new ticket sale or a confirmed date at the Desert Diamond Arena. For ticket holders, the immediate outcome is a refund rather than an exchange into another show.

The 12-date route reaches Las Vegas

Charli xcx began the 12-date “Music, Fashion, Film” tour in early September with an opener in Philadelphia, then headed to Brooklyn for two nights at Barclays Center. Stops followed in Toronto, Atlanta and San Diego. Two Los Angeles performances came over the weekend immediately before the cancelled Glendale date.

At the Los Angeles shows, Charli xcx brought out a handful of guests, including Chappell Roan for a rendition of “Boom Clap” and PinkPantheress for Charli xcx’s own song, “Stateside.” The two Los Angeles dates supplied the named guest appearances directly before the cancelled Arizona engagement.

Charli xcx’s route placed Desert Diamond Arena after Los Angeles and before the stated conclusion in Las Vegas. The withdrawal therefore removed one late stop rather than the tour itself. Charli xcx is scheduled to conclude the run Friday at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Charli xcx’s next named commitment is now Friday’s MGM Grand Garden Arena finale in Las Vegas; her promised Arizona return still depends on a future date that her team could not arrange for this run.
