Dave Grohl and Pat Smear have recorded a new version of "About You" with Taylor Momsen's band, the Pretty Reckless. The Foo Fighters pair contribute guitar, Grohl adds drums and new backing vocals, and the track draws directly from the group's fifth studio album, "Dear God," released in June.

What do Grohl and Smear bring to the track?

The rewrite stays close to the original's high-flying rock template. The difference is texture. Smear and Grohl both play guitar, adding chunky palm-muted power chords, while Grohl drums with what the source describes as his characteristic thundering skip — a Foo Fighters signature carried over wholesale.

Grohl also joins Momsen on backing vocals in the chorus:

"What you say, I forget / What you do, I regret / Not a word of it is true / It's true what they say / That you're running away / So, what does it say? / What does it say about you?"

Why did Momsen revisit the song?

Momsen named "About You" as one of her favorites from "Dear God," which is why she, in her words, "wanted to do something special" with the track.

"I called Dave and Pat and asked them if they'd lend their magic to it," Momsen said in a statement. "It was an amazing time in the studio making music, there's nothing better than jamming with friends. I couldn't be happier with the result."

Where does the song sit in the band's year?

"Dear God" is the Pretty Reckless' fifth studio album and their first proper album since 2021's "Death by Rock and Roll." In between, the band released the 2025 holiday EP "Taylor Momsen's Pretty Reckless Christmas."

The group has spent much of 2025 on a headlining tour supporting the record and recently finished a final run of shows opening for AC/DC.

The next stretch is already booked:

  • European and U.K. tour opens Nov. 9 in Madrid, Spain
  • The run wraps Dec. 3 in Glasgow, Scotland

That gives the Momsen-Grohl-Smear collaboration a live runway of nearly a month across Europe, should the new version earn a setlist slot.

The takeaway: two Foo Fighters have retooled a song Momsen already loved, and the result now sits inside a touring calendar that runs through early December.
