'Evil Dead Burn' Streams on HBO Max From October 2

"Evil Dead Burn" will start streaming on HBO Max on Oct. 2, landing the horror sequel on the platform well before Halloween. The date gives subscribers two full months of the year's scare fare at peak season.

The film is the sixth entry in the "Evil Dead" franchise and the third since the series rebooted in 2013. It opened theatrically on July 10. Sébastien Vaniček directed.

Souheila Yacoub ("Dune: Part Two") stars as a woman seeking comfort from her in-laws after her husband's death. The family gathers at a secluded house, where the reunion turns hellish as relatives become Deadites — the demonic entities at the center of the franchise since its inception.

The cast also includes Hunter Doohan ("Wednesday," "Daredevil: Born Again"), Luciane Buchanan ("The Night Agent"), Tandi Wright ("Pearl"), Erroll Shand ("Chief of War"), George Pullar ("It Only Takes a Night") and Maude Davey ("The Newsreader").

Sam Raimi created the "Evil Dead" franchise, which now spans six films and a television series. The saga follows characters confronting Deadites, demons raised through a strange book of the dead — called the Naturom Demonto in films one, four and five, and the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis in films two, three and six.

Bruce Campbell anchored the original trilogy: "The Evil Dead" (1981), "Evil Dead II" (1987) and "Army of Darkness" (1992). The 2013 standalone sequel "Evil Dead" continued the property. Campbell then reprised his role in the Starz series "Ash vs Evil Dead," which ran from 2015 to 2018. The fifth film, "Evil Dead Rise," followed in 2023.

Raimi and Robert Tapert produced "Evil Dead Burn" under their Ghost House Pictures banner. Campbell, Romel Adam, Lee Cronin and Jose Cañas served as executive producers.

The franchise shows no sign of stopping. A seventh film, "Evil Dead Wrath," directed by Francis Galluppi, is slated for release in April 2028 — meaning the streaming performance of "Burn" this October will likely shape expectations for the series' next chapter.
