HBO's 'Rooster' Adds Sutton Foster, Lamorne Morris and Michael Urie for Season 2

HBO has added five guest stars to Season 2 of its comedy series "Rooster": Sutton Foster, Lamorne Morris, Michael Urie, O-T Fagbenle and Zavior Phillips. Production on the new season is currently underway, according to Variety.

The casting announcement names the actors and their roles, but the network has not disclosed character details. "Details about the new characters are yet to be made public," Variety reports.

Who plays whom in Season 2?

Sutton Foster, the two-time Tony winner known for "Younger" and the Broadway revival of "The Music Man," will play Marti. She is repped by CAA, Range Media Partners and Wolf Kasteler Public Relations.

Lamorne Morris ("New Girl," "Fargo," "Spider-Noir") will play Caleb. O-T Fagbenle ("The Handmaid's Tale," "Presumed Innocent") takes the role of Hayes. Michael Urie, currently represented on screen in "Shrugging" — no, in "Shrinking" — and on stage in the hit play "Oh, Mary!," as well as "Ugly Betty," plays Larry. Zavior Phillips ("Bad Monkey") rounds out the group as Sam.

What is 'Rooster' about?

The series stars Steve Carell and Charly Clive as a father and daughter with a complicated relationship. The comedy unfolds on a college campus.

The ensemble cast also includes:

• Danielle Deadwyler as Dylan Shepherd
• Phil Dunster as Archie Bates
• John C. McGinley as Walter Mann
• Lauren Tsai as Sunny Salewski
• Annie Mumolo as Cristle
• Maximo Salas as Tommy
• Rory Scovel as Officer Donnie Mullins
• Connie Britton as Elizabeth Stoddard, a guest star

Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses serve as co-showrunners. The executive producer roster includes Lawrence, Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer through Doozer Productions, alongside Tarses, Barbie Adler, Annie Mebane, David Hyman and Carell himself. Warner Bros. Television produces the series in association with Doozer, and both Doozer and Tarses operate under overall deals at the studio.

What does this change for the show?

The answer lies in genre weight. Foster brings Broadway credentials, Morris brings sharp sitcom timing, and Urie brings stage and screen range. For a campus comedy built around a strained father-daughter bond, that mix of performers signals a writing room planning guest turns with actual comic and dramatic meat on them. With production already underway, viewers can expect HBO to reveal how Marti, Caleb, Larry, Hayes and Sam fit into Carell and Clive's orbit as the Season 2 premiere approaches.
