Hilary Duff has released a new song, "CATastrophe," for the soundtrack of the upcoming animated film The Cat in the Hat.
The track arrives with the full soundtrack, The Cat in the Hat (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), on Oct. 30. The film, starring Bill Hader, reaches theaters on Nov. 30.
Duff co-wrote "CATastrophe" with her husband and frequent collaborator Matthew Koma, along with Madison Love and Brian Phillips. The song is a hypnotic pop track built on feline wordplay: "Hey, I got nine lives," Duff sings. "Let's live one up tonight."
The accompanying video follows Duff as she unpacks a set of boxes and falls into a psychedelic world drawn from the visual imagination of Dr. Seuss.
The project carries personal weight for the singer. In a video posted to her Instagram story, Duff recorded herself in the studio and described herself as a "lifelong" Cat in the Hat fan. In a separate statement, she said Dr. Seuss "was on repeat" in her house for years.
"So when this came around, I didn't have to think about it," Duff said.
She framed the song's emotional core in concrete terms. "'CATastrophe' is about that feeling when your whole world gets picked up and moved somewhere else and nobody asks you first," Duff said. "I wanted it to be honest about those feelings, and still be something you'd turn all the way up in the car."
The soundtrack cut lands during a busy stretch for Duff. She recently announced tour dates for 2027 in support of her new album, Luck…or Something — her first record in more than a decade. The tour has drawn a devoted millennial audience, including two sold-out-attention nights at New York's Madison Square Garden last month.
"It was super healing to make something that felt exactly like me, and where I am right now," Duff told Rolling Stone of the album.
With "CATastrophe" scheduled for Oct. 30 and the Bill Hader-led film following a month later, Duff now anchors both a major studio soundtrack and a headlining tour cycle — a dual presence that positions her squarely in the pop mainstream for the first time in years.
