Jason Sudeikis wants more "Ted Lasso" — but no writers' room exists for a fifth season. "Yeah, I just don't know," he told Sam Fragoso on the podcast "Talk Easy," adding that he was not being coy "intentionally."

The Season 4 finale aired earlier this month. Asked whether he wanted to continue the show through Seasons 5 and 6, Sudeikis said he "would like to." He then noted the practical gap: "We haven't started a writers' room or anything like that." He said he would "assume" Apple would continue the series if the main cast wanted to return. That assumption is his, not Apple's — the company has said nothing in the source about future seasons.

What did the show save him from?

Sudeikis has said before that "Ted Lasso" saved him. Pressed by Fragoso on what exactly, he was blunt: "Some form of self-harm. Flat out." He described a feeling he had not had since "the confusing teenage years."

"That's probably the rawest, most, maybe embarrassing, but I don't think it's embarrassing… It does bubble up shame in me to think like, 'How dare you? How dare you have those kinds of thoughts,' you know?" he said.

He recalled wanting to be a drummer or a dancer as a teenager to release his emotions. "So how did ['Ted Lasso'] save me? To a certain degree, it helped [and] it carried me as sometimes the work has done in the past."

The admission is the sharpest fact in the interview. It also comes without detail — Sudeikis did not specify when those thoughts occurred or what form they took, and Fragoso's question, as reported, stayed on the show's role rather than the crisis itself.

What does he say the coverage of his split missed?

Fragoso also asked what the public got wrong about Sudeikis's 2020 separation from Olivia Wilde, his former fiancée. The split drew heavy coverage, and Sudeikis made headlines in 2022 when Wilde was served child custody documents on stage at CinemaCon.

"Oh, gosh. I mean, a million little things," Sudeikis answered. He said the experience gave him "capacity for empathy for when others go through those."

He pushed back at how such stories get framed. "I don't wish it on anyone because I don't think it really moves the needle. And to be clear, this isn't like, all evil is just misunderstood or something like that. I just mean these, interpersonal situations that then get portrayed as being these binary situations of right and wrong… It's always more complicated, more human than that."

He did not address the CinemaCon incident itself. The one concrete event most readers remember went unmentioned in his answer.

Sudeikis also praised his ex-partner's career. "Olivia loves what she does and is very, very good at and always has been. I'm thrilled for her," he said. Wilde is currently in the awards conversation for directing "The Invite."

What does this change for Ted Lasso?

For now, nothing official. A star who wants to return, no writers' room, and no commitment from Apple leave the show's future exactly where it was before the interview. Until Apple or the cast confirm a Season 5, Sudeikis's "I would like to" is the only fact on the table.
