Lena Dunham Goes Corporate in First Look at Channel 4-A24 Comedy 'It Gets Worse'

Lena Dunham sits at a wooden desk behind a CEO nameplate in the first look images from "It Gets Worse," the upcoming Channel 4/A24 comedy created by and starring Leo Reich.

Dunham guest stars as Greta. The stills show her in character in what appears to be an airy office, nameplate in place — the actor, writer and "Girls" creator playing the executive, not the striver.

Reich wrote the series and leads the cast as Ethan, opposite Emily Fairn as Abi and Olive Gray as Sam. The three play best friends who have known each other since college.

The synopsis spells out their predicament bluntly. "It's been a year since they finally managed to move to London, they have collectively accomplished nothing, and now their landlord is selling up," it reads. "They're getting kicked out. What now? Can they keep their friendships alive when they are dispersed across a city that seems to want them dead? Can they find a six out of ten or higher to have bad sex with? Can they get their shit together when the world is so obviously falling apart? Probably not. But they're going to have fun trying."

The cast also features Amelia Dimoldenberg as Emily, Blake Harrison as Roger, Vicki Pepperdine as Sarah and Clayton Pettet as Freddy. Novelist Zadie Smith narrates the series.

"It Gets Worse" is set to premiere at the BFI London Film Festival next month.

Charlie Perkins, Channel 4's head of comedy, commissioned the series. A24 produces. Sam Pinnell, whose credits include "Trying" and "Motherland," serves as producer, and Mounia Akl, known for "House of Guinness" and "The Responder," directs. Matthew Lewis, the Emmy-winning director of photography on "Adolescence," lensed the show.

The series pairs Channel 4's comedy slate with A24's television output and a BFI London Film Festival launch — a combination that will position Reich, a stand-up and writer making his first authored series, before a festival audience ahead of its broadcast run.
