Loewe will launch a capsule collection with Tim Burton and Disney inspired by "The Nightmare Before Christmas" on November 12, spanning handbags, ready-to-wear, leather goods, accessories and scented candles.
The Spanish luxury house, owned by LVMH, announced the partnership as its latest foray into Hollywood-inspired fashion. The 1993 stop-motion classic supplies the imagery: a handbag with a Jack Skellington illustration hidden in its lining, a crocheted Wolfman keychain, and a woven black-and-orange leather bucket bag adorned with protruding snakes. Further designs draw on the film's eccentric supporting cast, including Zero and the Harlequin Demon.
Who made it, and why it fits
The collaboration pairs Burton with Loewe creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, who took the reins at the label in 2025. The announcement frames the tie-up around craftsmanship — the handmade puppets, sets and intricate animation that brought "The Nightmare Before Christmas" to life, set against a fashion house built on leatherwork and hand technique.
Burton, in an interview with Vanity Fair accompanying the announcement, made the connection explicit.
"I love [stop motion] because it's all handmade," Burton told Vanity Fair. "When you see the puppets and the sets, you wish everybody could experience the tactile nature of what goes into making a stop-motion film, or any film."
What does Burton say about AI?
The filmmaker went further, tying the collaboration to his unease with artificial intelligence. "The more [AI] keeps going that way, the more I appreciate [the human] side of it," Burton said. "I think it's something that's very important to keep in the world, the tactile, not being on a screen all the time and doing all that sort of thing. To me, [humanity] is very important to life and art and anything, really."
The statement is a marketing-friendly position, but it is consistent: Burton's filmography depends on practical, physical fabrication in ways few directors' work does. What the quote does not address is price. Neither Loewe, Disney nor Burton's representatives have disclosed figures for the collection; the word "luxe" in the announcement signals positioning, not a published price list.
One caveat on authorship. Although the film is closely associated with Burton, "The Nightmare Before Christmas" was directed by Henry Selick and based on an original poem by Burton, who also produced it. Disney released the musical fantasy through its Touchstone Pictures banner in 1993. It follows Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, as he attempts to take over Christmas. The collection credits Burton's name; Selick's does not appear in the announcement.
A pattern, not a one-off
The release continues a documented Loewe pattern of collaborations with animated films. Under former creative director Jonathan Anderson, the house partnered with Japan's Studio Ghibli on three collections:
- "My Neighbor Totoro" in 2021
- "Spirited Away" in 2022
- "Howl's Moving Castle" in 2023
The label's Hollywood ties extend to the screen as well. Anderson, during his tenure, developed a close creative partnership with director Luca Guadagnino, designing costumes for his 2024 releases "Challengers," starring Zendaya, and "Queer," starring Daniel Craig. Loewe also enlisted Guadagnino to direct a short film for its Spring/Summer 2024 campaign.
What does this change for Loewe?
For McCollough and Hernandez, appointed only in 2025, the collection is an early test of whether the house's entertainment-led strategy survives its creative transition. The Ghibli collaborations were Anderson's projects; this is the first marquee film partnership under the new directors' names. If the November 12 launch performs, expect more licensed capsules — and more claims about handmade values attached to machine-scaled luxury production.
