Mark Ronson, Jessie Reyez, Corinne Bailey Rae and Jorja Smith performed the music of Amy Winehouse at London's Roundhouse on Wednesday, in an all-star tribute to the singer's breakthrough album Back to Black.

The album turns 20 next week. Ronson and Salaam Remi, the record's original producers, backed the singers alongside the Amy Winehouse Band, a tribute act led by the late singer's bassist and musical director Dale Davis. The artists rotated vocals across Back to Black's 11 tracks, performing the LP in sequence.

Who sang what on the night?

Corinne Bailey Rae opened the evening with the title track, setting the pattern of one singer per song:

  • Sasha Keable performed "Just Friends"
  • Nia Smith performed "Tears Dry on Their Own"
  • Skye Newman performed "Addicted"
  • Yebba performed "Love Is a Losing Game"
  • Terri Walker performed "Me and Mr. Jones"
  • Lianne La Havas performed the hit "You Know I'm No Good"

Baby Rose, Jorja Smith and the group FOL followed at the Roundhouse. Jessie Reyez closed the Back to Black portion of the concert with "Rehab," the album's signature single.

Why the venue carries weight

The Roundhouse is not an arbitrary choice. It was the last venue Winehouse appeared at before her death in July 2011, at age 27. Wednesday's concert returned her music to that stage 14 years later, performed by a roster of British and international artists who came up in her wake — among them Jorja Smith and FLO, two acts routinely measured against her influence on modern soul and R&B.

An ensemble finale

After the album ran its course, every artist on the bill returned to the stage together. They performed "Valerie," the Zutons song that Winehouse popularized through her 2007 Mark Ronson collaboration, turning the night's closer into a full ensemble rendition.

Where to watch and what comes next

Fans who missed the show will not have to rely on fan footage. The BBC will broadcast the Back to Black 20th anniversary gig in full later this month, as part of a wider celebration of the singer. A deluxe 20th anniversary edition of the album is also due out Friday, giving the tribute a recorded companion piece within days of the concert.

In plain terms: a 20-year-old album got a full live recreation by its original producers, at the venue where its maker last performed, with a broadcast and a reissue to follow inside the same month.
