Netflix has set a Dec. 3 premiere for its six-part limited series "Pride and Prejudice," starring Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy. The streaming platform released the trailer this week, giving viewers a first look at the adversaries-to-lovers pairing at the center of Jane Austen's 1813 novel.

The adaptation comes from writer Dolly Alderton, author of "Everything I Know About Love," and director Euros Lyn, best known for "Heartstopper." Netflix describes it as a faithful adaptation of the novel, tracking the will-they-won't-they courtship of Elizabeth and Darcy against the social mores of 19th-century England.

Who joins Corrin and Lowden on screen?

The supporting cast carries considerable weight. Olivia Colman ("The Crown") plays Mrs. Bennet, with Rufus Sewell ("The Diplomat") as Mr. Bennet. Freya Mavor ("Industry") takes the role of Jane Bennet, while Jamie Demetriou ("Stath Lets Flats") plays Mr. Collins and Daryl McCormack ("Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery") appears as Mr. Bingley.

Louis Partridge ("House of Guinness") joins as Mr. Wickham. Rhea Norwood ("Heartstopper") plays Lydia Bennet, Siena Kelly ("Black Mirror") appears as Caroline Bingley, and Fiona Shaw ("Killing Eve") takes on Lady Catherine de Bourg.

Two newcomers round out the Bennet sisters: Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery make their screen debuts as Mary Bennet and Kitty Bennet.

The ensemble extends further. Anjana Vasan ("We Are Lady Parts"), Sebastian Armesto ("Gangs of London"), Rosie Cavaliero ("KAOS"), Saffron Coomber ("Three Little Birds and Die Zweiflers"), James Dryden ("Deadpool"), Justin Edwards ("The Thick Of It"), James Northcote ("The Last Kingdom"), Eloise Webb ("The Queen's Gambit") and Isabella Sermon ("Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom") all appear.

Who is steering the production?

Corrin herself holds an executive producer credit, alongside Laura Lankester, Alderton, Lyn, and Will Johnston and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point. Lisa Osborne serves as producer. Corrin's producing role marks a shift for the actor, who anchored Netflix's "The Crown" as Princess Diana before leaving that series.

Notably absent from the announcement: any indication of changes to Austen's plot or setting. Netflix calls the series faithful, and the credited creative team — Alderton's background in contemporary memoir and romantic comedy, Lyn's in youth-oriented drama — suggests a straight retelling rather than a modernized one, in contrast to recent genre experiments elsewhere.

What does this change for viewers? It adds another major Austen adaptation to a crowded field, but with a prestige cast and a limited-series format that allows more runtime than a feature film.

"Pride and Prejudice" premieres on Netflix Dec. 3.
