UTA has signed 15-year-old Irish-English actress Bodhi Rae Breathnach, the young performer whose feature film debut in Chloe Zhao's "Hamnet" earned the film critical acclaim and awards-season traction, for representation in the United States. Danie Streisand will represent her at the agency; she continues to be repped in the U.K. by The Artists Partnership.
The signing lands just as Breathnach's latest film, a new adaptation of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility," prepares to open in the U.S.
Who does Breathnach play in 'Sense and Sensibility'?
Georgia Oakley directs the fresh take on Austen's novel, backed by Focus and Working Title. Breathnach stars as Margaret Dashwood opposite:
- Daisy Edgar-Jones
- Esmé Creed-Miles
- Caitríona Balfe
- Frank Dillane
- Herbert Nordrum
- George MacKay
- Fiona Shaw
The film opened in the U.K. on Sept. 25 to positive reviews. Focus releases it in U.S. theaters on Oct. 16.
How did her career begin?
Breathnach's first screen appearance came in the British conspiracy thriller series "The Capture." She then made her feature debut in "Hamnet," which became both a critics' favorite and a box office hit.
Earlier this year, Black Bear released the action-thriller "Shelter," in which Breathnach starred as co-lead alongside Jason Statham. Her veteran co-star gave a direct verdict on her prospects at the time.
"She's very talented, I think we're going to see a lot of her," Statham said.
What comes next?
Two major projects are already on her slate. Breathnach will appear in Robert Eggers' "Werwulf," which Focus has slated for a December release. That film also stars Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Ralph Ineson and Willem Dafoe.
She has also wrapped the leading role of Marjorie in Fifth Season's film adaptation of Paul Tremblay's novel "A Head Full of Ghosts," directed by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala. The film co-stars Esmé Creed-Miles, Rebecca Hall and David Harbour.
With a U.S. agency behind her and an Eggers film arriving in December, Breathnach moves from breakthrough status into one of the busiest young careers in film.
