Nick Cave will play 25 North American dates in spring 2027, reviving the talk-and-piano format he last toured in 2019. "Conversations With Nick Cave: An Evening of Talk and Music" opens April 9, 2027 at Vancouver's Queen Elizabeth Theatre and closes May 21 at New Orleans' Saenger Theatre.
The announcement, made via tour promoters, describes the shows as "a mixture of unvetted audience questions and intimate performances of Cave's extensive catalog at the piano." No Bad Seeds, no Grinderman. One man, one piano, and whatever the audience asks.
What does the tour actually look like?
Six cities get two-night stands across the six-week run:
- San Francisco, Orpheum Theatre — April 16-17
- Los Angeles, Orpheum Theatre — April 20-21
- Seattle, The 5th Avenue Theatre — April 13-14
- Toronto, Massey Hall — April 29-30
- Boston, Boch Center Shubert Theatre — May 4-5
- Brooklyn, Kings Theatre — May 7-8
Single dates fill the gaps: Portland (April 12, Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall), Minneapolis (April 24, State Theatre), Chicago (April 26, The Chicago Theatre), Detroit (April 27, Masonic Jack White Theatre), Montreal (May 2, Théâtre St-Denis), Philadelphia (May 10, The Met Philadelphia), Washington, D.C. (May 11, Lincoln Theatre), Asheville (May 13, Thomas Wolfe Auditorium), Atlanta (May 14, Atlanta Symphony Hall), Nashville (May 16, Ryman Auditorium) and Memphis (May 18, Orpheum Theatre).
That is a notably wide map for a solo conversation format — 19 cities, coast to coast, including southern stops the 2019 run did not prioritize.
What did Cave say?
Cave framed the return in personal terms in a statement announcing the dates.
"Years ago, in a peculiar state of mind, I traveled across the U.S., stepped onto stages in different cities, and fielded questions from the audience," he said. "It was a strange, almost desperate idea, but those nights became deeply healing for me. I hope the audience felt the same."
He also pointed to what has changed since. "Eight years have passed," Cave continued. "The Red Hand Files have grown in reach and stature; the topics of conversation have broadened, and it feels like the right time to return to America, a different America from eight years ago, and bring the 'Conversations…' show back. I'll have my piano with me, play some songs, and answer questions. What could possibly go wrong?"
The Red Hand Files, his long-running site answering readers' letters, has become Cave's most direct channel of public reflection — on grief, faith, art and loss. The tour effectively moves that correspondence onto a stage, unfiltered.
The phrase "a different America from eight years ago" is Cave's only gesture toward context. He does not elaborate, and the announcement does not say whether any topics will be off-limits. The questions, promoters stress, remain unvetted. Whether that holds across 25 nights in 19 cities is the part no press release can guarantee.
When do tickets go on sale?
A pre-sale begins November 11 at 10 a.m. local time and runs for 24 hours. The general on-sale follows November 13 at 10 a.m. local time, also local-time staggered across markets.
What does this change for Cave's audience? It offers the rarest version of him: no band, no setlist armor, direct exchange — and a test of whether an eight-year-old format still works in venues the size of Massey Hall and the Ryman.
