Paramount+ Acquires Three A24 British Series for U.S. Streaming

Programme

  1. Paramount+ acquired U.S. streaming rights to three A24 British series: It Gets Worse, Major Players and The Ministry of Time.
  2. It Gets Worse, created by Leo Reich, premieres in early November with guest stars Lena Dunham and Andrew Scott.
  3. The Ministry of Time adapts Kaliane Bradley's novel, scripted by Alice Birch of Succession and starring Aoife Hinds.
  4. Major Players is co-written by Molly Manning Walker (How To Have Sex) and Yasmin Joseph (A Thousand Blows).

Paramount+ has acquired U.S. streaming rights to three new original British series from A24: comedy "It Gets Worse," coming-of-age drama "Major Players" and the screen adaptation of "The Ministry of Time." The deal also covers select other regional territories beyond the United States.

Jane Wiseman, head of originals at Paramount+, framed the acquisition as part of the streamer's broader content strategy. "For over a decade, A24 has produced some of the most exhilarating and thought-provoking independent series and films," Wiseman said. "As we continue to bolster the service's original content offering, both through internal productions and external partnerships, we immediately knew these three A24 series from across the pond would strengthen Paramount+'s reputation as the leading destination for inventive, compelling stories."

What is 'It Gets Worse'?

The first arrival, "It Gets Worse," drops in early November. Created and executive produced by Leo Reich, the comedy follows a trio who became friends at university and move to London. Reich stars alongside Emily Fairn ("House of Guinness"), Olive Gray ("Halo") and Sean Delaney ("Killing Eve"). Guest stars include Lena Dunham and Andrew Scott.

The cast gives the series recognizable pull on both sides of the Atlantic. Scott's involvement follows his established screen career, and Dunham's appearance marks a notable guest turn for the A24-produced comedy.

Who made 'Major Players'?

"Major Players" comes from writers with strong film and television credentials. Molly Manning Walker, the director-writer behind "How To Have Sex," co-writes with Yasmin Joseph ("A Thousand Blows").

The series tells the story of two girls on the brink of adulthood who start a women's soccer team. Manning Walker's debut feature earned her critical attention for its treatment of coming-of-age themes, and "Major Players" extends that territory into episodic form.

How does 'The Ministry of Time' translate to screen?

"The Ministry of Time" adapts Kaliane Bradley's novel of the same name. Alice Birch, whose credits include "Succession," handles the adaptation.

The story follows civil servant Sophy, played by Aoife Hinds, as she discovers her new top-secret role: helping a time traveller acclimate to the modern world. Bradley's source novel brings a built-in literary audience to the adaptation, and Birch's involvement ties the project to one of HBO's most acclaimed dramas of recent years.

Why does the deal matter?

The acquisition signals Paramount+'s continued reliance on external partnerships alongside internal productions to build its originals slate. Wiseman's statement positions the three series as proof of that dual approach, and the A24 brand carries weight with viewers who follow independent film and television.

For A24, the deal extends its television output into a major U.S. streaming home at a moment when competition for distinctive scripted content remains intense. The early November debut of "It Gets Worse" will offer the first test of how the partnership lands with subscribers.
